OH HEEEEEELLLLLLL NO!!! ![]() Don't say mean and awful things like this...These are one of my top 3 smokes of all time. I absolutely love the #46. I personally keep the cello off of everyone I receive just to be safe. The ones I keep in box I leave the cedar on but check them to be safe every now and then. I haven't had any problems with them yet. Mold or not I will continue to buy any 46 that crosses my path!! ![]()

I'm going to dry box(Humidity@ 60) mine next time, I'd never leave the cello on though. That just seems like asking for it with these cigars.

Re: What is it with Anejos and mold?
What puzzles me is why are the sharks are always the worst?
Don't get me wrong, I have seen mold on pretty much every sized anejo. For the sizes with cedar wraps, I usually see mold growing under the cedar when they have been stored at too high a humidity for anejos (typically >65%). For the ones that I have removed the cedar, I rarely see mold come back or start if it was clean to begin with. Besides last year where they supposedly sat on a boat in the ocean after being sent to the wrong country, I hardly ever see mold on anejos except the sharks. Not only that, I had never seen mold on the foot of a cigar until the sharks. Do they ship these too damp? They really should stop putting humidipaks in the anejo boxes.

Re: What is it with Anejos and mold?
These were originally Opus that they ran out or wrapper leaf for. Eventually, due to overhumidification in storage, they grew moldy all over. Carlos scraped off the green bits, leaving only the oldest, blackest mold as a covering, and the Anejo was born. "Anejo" is Dominican for "delicious moldy wrapper".
So, just scrape off the green bits and smoke away, that's how they were made to be smoked!

Re: What is it with Anejos and mold?
That's plume! The special wrappers on the Anejo's make the plume look fuzzier than normal. Seriously.

Mold can be white, blue, green, black, yellow, red, etc. Mold on cigars is usually white, and in more extreme cases blue, green or yellow. For reference... http://www.vitolas.net/displayimage.php?pos=-927 http://www.vitolas.net/displayimage.php?pos=-601 http://www.vitolas.net/displayimage.php?pos=-446 <- the plume looks white here because it's the light from the flash reflecting off the crystals. I truly believe the mold is green and plume is white misconception has been purposely spread by the cigar industry. Cigar shops and manufacturers spread the lie to avoid taking losses on moldy cigars.

It has been my experience that most shop owners or employees don't really take the time to know the difference and it happens so infrequently it is a none-issue. I don't think there are too many people out their maliciously "spreading the lie". |

Re: What is it with Anejos and mold?
Ok, i've only smoked Opus in strip clubs, hence my confusion. Can't do that anymore in Illinois, but my buds tell me there are a few great places across the border. Next time you're in Illinois/Indiana PM me, i'll grab some Anejos from the humi and a bundle of $1's, we'll do a plume/mold/glitter comparison up-close.
