My tastes have changed....

For a while, the cigars I enjoyed fell into the "bigger is better" category. Now, I really tend to enjoy the smaller smokes. They seem more flavorful to me. Lanceros, coronas, Petite coronas.
Give me a chiselito or a Padron Ambassador or londres over the bigger vitolas for an everyday smoke.
Dont get me wrong, sometimes I want to sit back for two + hours and relax with a stick, and I'll grab a churchill or something such, but more often than not I've got the skinny sticks in my fingers.

I never thought it'd be this way, but my tastes have changed.

Re: My tastes have changed....

most of my daily smokes are macanudo ascots. i save the toros & churchills for the weekends.

for me it's more of a time constraint over the actual taste of the stick

That's very interesting, I know my taste's have changed a number of times, but not usually towards smaller ring guage's...then again, after a recent Por Larranga that was gifted to me...who knows???

I myself love the Robusto size. Don't really care for the longer sticks. Max 6.25 for length!

I'm with you, brother. I went from large smokes to average size smokes and now I prefer small ring gauges and usually shorter sizes. Smaller RG cigars just seem to have more intense and pure flavor than large RG cigars. It seems that it's a natural progression. Next up comes the vintage ISOM and/or pipe slope

Every time I smoke a small rg and I like it but feel it could be better, I always want to find a bigger rg thinking the flavors will be "fuller".

Re: My tastes have changed....

Time usually is the issue for me, so I gravitate towards shorter cigars, like the Short Story, Padron 1926 #35. Otherwise, the Robusto & Corona sizes are my favorites. If it's too small, it just seems like a glorified cigarette to me.

I have backed off from the churchill size, I prefer torpedo's and those of such length.

I played w/ the idea of a pipe before getting back into cigars. I might still pick up a pipe yet. Vintage ISOMs may well be in my future.

That fuller hit is one of the reasons my ring gauges have gotten smaller

Re: My tastes have changed....

I agree that the big smokes are more fantasy then reality, meaning that I look at them and think wonderful thoughts but the reality of having them in my humi is that i dont moke them NEAR as often as my robustos....

If you like the ascots, you might want to check out the old fashioned chicos, great taste and cheap.

Not necessarily that your tastes have changed, but your preference on vitolas has. I can't sit around with a huge stogie of 7x50+ anymore. I get bored after an hour or so and it just seems like i'm wrapping my mouth..ok never mind.

You will later find that the other smokes from that country that shall not be named are best in the smaller sizes or are only available in smaller vitolas.

Enjoying the smaller vitolas might be to your advantage since less tobacco means less investment per stick.

I chalk this up as having ADD of the mouth when it comes to cigars.

Re: My tastes have changed....

I can remember when mine changed. Not so much for different RGs, as I have always liked small and large, but when I went from liking mostly conn. shade, cameroons and sweet maduros to more spicy and complex cigars. It was about 2 years ago when I had my first Tatuaje and since then I have been wild about full flavor, full bodied smokes. Not to say I still don't enjoy a wide spectrum of smokes, but now I just prefer, more often than not, full smokes.
