If someone is fanatical about cigars enough to join CS & start posting, I think it's already too late to save them from the slope.

Maybe this should be part of a disclaimer for new members to initial?

Great post!

As a fellow newb, I think that I've somehow followed most of your advice, but it's always difficult to pass up that next purchase. After a month, I have only about 30 sticks, but, as I smoke only about one per week, it's easier to limit spending. Also, I'm forcing myself to buy no more than can fit in my 50 ct. humi. I find the self imposed limit of only one small humi is the easiest way to curb excessive sliding down the slope.

Very nice post. It's about 2 months and $500 too late.

Thanks for taking the time to share your wisdom.

Me budget keeps me from the coolerdor collection slope but I've gone from having a couple of boxes of sticks I know I like to that and 50 or so gars I haven't tried yet and keep getting more. Once I get some spare money the gates will open....

Have the cigars shipped to work. Divide them into 2 bags. 1 with just enough to put you just a stick or 2 over what her limit would be. (because she knows you will spend more than she would). When she asks "how much did those cost", tell her how much those cost. Deal with the little fall out explain the deals, you know the lines. Than after bed or in the morning when she is not around bring in the second bag and put it away.

Problem solved, you did not lie, and she still gets to be mad at you for a while. + it only last a few minutes and you know what the say about make up s...

This point can not be emphasized enough. I am a newbie and got a 5 Vegas Gold in a sampler a couple months ago. I thought it was the greatest cigar ever and bought a box of them. Now after going through a bunch of samplers and realizing a bit more about what I like, the 5 Vegas Golds have only been touched once in the last two months and I did not particularly enjoy it. Not to say it's a bad cigar, just that it has taken me a while to discover what I really like.

Of course I now have a box of RP 1992's so I still don't follow these suggestions always...

Great post, BTW...

Re: How to avoid the slope: perspective from a newb that didn't.

I somehow managed to deal with the slope productively. I went from 20 or so smokes to about 70 through trades and purchases, so I got to enjoy the slope for a bit, but I also agree with the OP in that you should not buy boxes for some time, by my math my smokes could EASILY last ME a year so why go out and buy a box of 25 of the same thing when i have 65 different smokes I have never tasted! Now I did buy a 5er of one I truly thought was fantatic but that is managable and if i decide down the road i no longer like it, I am not out 100 + dollars!

Excellent post. Fortunately I have not totally succumbed to the slope, but I have stared into the precipice a few times.

If only this post was written two months ago... I have been tumbling down this slope for just a bit, but I already know it is too late to save me now. God help me.
