I think there is a high percentage of those who join, are active for quite a while...say 100 or so posts, then lose interest for whatever reason. If I had paid attention in my Statistics class, I could probably get numbers...but I am too lazy.

I was a lurker for a while. I was brand new, looking down the slope and wondering if it was worth heading down. I had been smoking some
 (Duque) and wasn't sure if it was really for me. Then I had an RP Vintage 90 and down the slope I went.
