Usually around 90 minutes for a robusto, the longest was a RP Limited A Sungrown at 8 1/2 inches lasted 3 hours. I've had a couple RP Battalions that were 2 1/2 hours.

A experienced cigar smoker taught me about the puff-a-minute rule of thumb. Works for me.

Except during progress meetings and I hear about projects going wrong, then its a puff-a-second.

Robustos typically take me a little over an hour to smoke but I smoke most good cigars to the nub. Maybe the author of the book only smokes 1/2-2/3s of his cigars like a "gentleman" is supposed to.

My goto smoke is the Hoyo de Monterrey Petit Robusto 4 X 50, its a good 45 to 60 minute smoke and I would say I am on the medium to fast side and typically don't worry about the last inch and a half.

On full Robustos I am over an hour and 15 to hour and a half.

I think that the speed to smoke at is a simple factor of taking the ring gauge multiplied by the square of the length, divided by how much you spent on the smoke (factoring the shipping by half) and decreasing that by three times the time of toasting and lighting and ...........................

Smoke speed is exactly how you like to enjoy it, fast, slow, medium.........to me your only an idiot if you let someone else tell you how to enjoy your smoke.

Amen! I think the same mentality should apply to lighting, cutting, etc. The entire procedure should be done the way that satisfies you the most. After all, that's why we enjoy this wallet raping hobby isn't it?

I think these numbers are realistic is you dont smoke it down to your fingers.

In most cases I smoke only 2/3 of a cigar. A Robusto does take me between 50 and 70 minutes. Slower is often better but you shouldn't let it go out too often. I actually read that there is a worldchampionship in slow cigar smoking. No kidding.

Longest I have taken was probably around 2.5 hours for something like a Cohiba Salomon or a Davidoff Anniversario No. 1.

It is better to smoke slowly without it going out (if it does go out from time to time that's not so bad) than to smoke too quickly and overheat it.

My assumptions have been confirmed--I'm not an IDIOT!!! I've never felt I was smoking too slow, in fact my times have always seemed just about spot on as I was either engrossed in a good book, surfing CS, or having a great conversation with a friend. Those are moments you don't want to end prematurely anyway.

As was mentioned, I do wonder if those times are based on leaving 1-2 inches of the cigar and walking away. However, this is sometimes the most enjoyable portion of a cigar for me; well with all the flavors popping and whatnot.

I also feel it's good advice to "blaze your own trail" so to speak, and not just with smoking time but with lighting, cutting (to a point), etc. I guess when you make the smoking experience your own and not some formula you have created the best possible conditions to enjoy your cigar, and that's not bad.

Those numbers don't look right to me. My go-to vitola is the Robusto and on average these take me 55 - 65 minutes. 20 - 40 is just way too fast IMHO.
