Am I a Complete Idiot?

Thanks to StayingWarm and his generous book pass, I've been working my way through The Complete Idiot's Guide To Cigars. I recently read about the various cigar shapes and their approximate smoking times (see chart below):

• Gigante, Presidente, Immensa (8 to 10 x 52 to 64 RG) -- apx. smoke time: 1 to 1.5 hours
• Double Corona (7.5 to 8 x 49 to 52 RG) -- apx. smoke time: 45 min.
• Churchill (7 x 47 to 48 RG) -- apx. smoke time: 45 min.
• Panatela (6 to 7.5 x 34 to 39 RG) -- apx. smoke time: 35 to 45 min.
• Lonsdale (6 to 7 x 42 RG) -- apx. smoke time: 45 to 50 min.
• Corona Grandes (6 to 6.5 x 44 to 46 RG) -- apx. smoke time: 45 min.
• Corona Extra, Corona Royale (5.5 x 44 to 46 RG) -- apx. smoke time: 40 min.
• Corona (5.5 x 42 RG) -- apx. smoke time: 30 to 45 min.
• Petite Corona (4.5 to 5 x 40 to 42 RG) -- apx. smoke time: 25 min.
• Robusto, Rothschild, Toro (4.5 x 50 RG) -- apx. smoke time: 20 to 40 min.
• Delvedere, Ascot, Demitasse (3 to 5 x 30 to 36 RG) -- apx. smoke time: 15 to 20 min.

Most often I prefer to smoke Robusto sized cigars (4.5 to 5.5 x 50 to 51 RG) and often times I find this usually takes me 75 to 90 min. to smoke the cigar basically to the nub. If I'm not smoking a Robusto, I'm usually smoking a Churchill which will take me 90 to 120 min. plus to nub.

While I don't feel as though I'm smoking too slow, I guess I was just surprised to read numbers that were considerable lower than what I was finding...any thoughts?

Yer doin it right. Averages are not what yield the best smoking experience. Slower is always better in terms of getting the best flavors from smoldering rolled up weeds.

Definitely slower = better, i find that when i smoke any faster then what feels comfortable, the smoke becomes too hot or you start getting bitter flavors in the stogie..

take your time and enjoy that smoke!

Your numbers seem more accurate to me than the books numbers.

I'm with you! My times are much longer than those listed as well. No sense rushing a good thing, I guess.

I think the smoke times listed are awfully quick . I'm about an hour for a robusto, 80-100 minutes for a churchill, etc. Take your time with them like you are, you'll enjoy them that much more IMO

sounds to me like the title of the book refers to the author, rather than the intended readers

I agree with everyone else. The numbers in that book are just an average! They aren't what you *should* be doing.

Every time we smoke any of those- it takes a lot longer.

If not, I'd be sick in the bathroom throwing up....Wait...I think I've done that...as a newb beginner of course!

As long as you're enjoying the smoke and it's not going out, you are doing fine. I actually smoke too fast, especially when I'm alone, and need to slow myself down.

I take longer than those times. Takes me about that long to figure what I want to smoke.

I would say extreme, not average. Average would imply that there are people out there smoking even faster than those numbers!

those numbers look like they were on when i first started smoking. But i find that i have gotten slower as the years go by.
