Re: Need Help, Life Insurance
Interesting question.
Cigs or Cigars? I don't do cigs. I did a test about a year ago, right after the herf in Chicago. Smoked all week. Did about 8 cigars on Saturday and a few on Sunday. Smoked the week after that on Wednesday. Did my bloodwork that Saturday. Wife does not smoke. Son has an occasional cigar. Well, already told you about me. My test results were comparable to that of my wife and son. As far as the results go, I am not a smoker. All went through fine. |

Re: Need Help, Life Insurance
When I did it, I went 3 weeks, without, but was honest in the phone interview and said I smoked 2 cigars a month. She said it would be no problem to get the non-smokers rate as long as I didn't smoke for a couple weeks before the blood testing. I went 3 weeks, and got the non smoking rate. All was well. I do urge you though, if they do a phone interview, to be honest with whoever is interviewing you.

I did mention up front that I smoked an occasional cigar (well, occasional to me, OK?). Guy said don't worry about it and to wait for results. Results were fine but I forgot to mention, I don't inhale (follow the Bill theory). ![]() |

I'm waiting on my results right now.
I went about three weeks, but I think a week would probably be good. I will let you know what my results were as soon as I get them. Believe me three weeks is way too long to go, especially when they kept coming in the mail.

Re: Need Help, Life Insurance
i've smoked cigars for over 25 years. stopped for two days and drank lots of water just to be sure and passed with no problems. if you don't inhale it just really isn't much of a problem.

Re: Need Help, Life Insurance
Are they doing blood work or mouth swab? My ex-wife is an insurance agent. I'll see if I can get some info, as much as I hate taking to her.
![]() Just got off the phone with her. She said a regular smoker (cigarettes) should stop for a month or more from her offices findings. A few cigars a week, she said maybe 1-3 weeks. They do the mouth swabs. She said brush your gums and inside the cheek areas regularly a couple days before. She smokes like a chimney and got life insurance. You should be fine.

It is cigarettes that get really deep in your system and takes time to get out. Cigars are generally not inhaled by many. In my case, I went three days or so without a cigar and showed no evidence whatsoever. |

I got a good rate through Prudential Life Insurance. They allow 1 cigar per day. Whatever you do, don't lie; if they catch you it can be grounds to not pay the death benefit.

Re: Need Help, Life Insurance
I wonder how it plays out if you already have a life insurance plan (20 term) and then start smoking cigars years after the plan started. That is my case, only smoked cigars occationally while playing golf when I got the ins and just recently started enjoying cigars a couple times a week.
Do you think that I'm grandfathered in, or am I putting my family at risk of not getting a death settlement payout? |
