Fuente Anejo

I've read that the anejo uses the same filler and binder as the opus x (don't know if thats true), but i was wondering how good these are and how the compare in taste to the opus x. are these two cigars similar at all?

Re: Fuente Anejo

There are many reviews and comments on the anejos if you use the search button. I would highly recommend these cigars although they are $$$ if purchased outside of retail.

I've found the burn and draw of the Anejo superior to that of the OpusX vitolas that I have tried. Taste is similar to OpusX. To me, not worth the money. Can you say Hype? There are a lot of smokes out there that I have enjoyed as much and paid a lot less to do so.

Re: Fuente Anejo

I think the wrapper is aged in cognac barrels for a year or so as well.

Re: Fuente Anejo

From the Rare Fuente Web Site

Añejos have a blend of Opus X, Don Carlos, and Hemingway filler, with Connecticut broadleaf maduro wrappers that are cured in cognac barrels after they've been aged. The original release Añejos have no cedar around them, and have wrappers that were aged in for 7 years (subsequent releases have the wrappers aged for varying time, generally about 3 years, and are all wrapped in cedar). Añejo No.77s (aka, "Sharks") are the exception; they were originally released in early 2001, and no release of the Sharks is wrapped in cedar. Contrary to popular belief, all releases of the Añejos have their tobacco aged/cured in cognac barrels for only 6-8 months... the bulk of the aging time is done in tightly packed bales.

Re: Fuente Anejo

I prefer the Anejos to the Opus. At the shop I frequented in Pittsburgh, they could be had for very reasonable prices.

hrm. I've smoked an awful lot of both, and find very, very little similarity between the Añejo and the Opus.

If you're paying a lot over MSRP, then I suppose they may not be worth it to you -- but the MSRP is lower than similarly sized Padrón 1964s (which I love), Cohibas (ditto), Trinidads, etc., etc.
