Just wanted to pop in and introduce myself. This looks like a great forum!

CigarPlaces is my project. We launched on Sunday (six days ago), which is why there aren't listings in every city yet.

Thanks a lot for adding your favorite locations, guys!

Sikk50: We've been averaging around 45 new locations per day, so we're off to a good start!

If you guys have any ideas about features you'd like to see, etc, I'd love to hear 'em.

Chris, great idea. I was thinking that someone should do this. And, voila, it's done. Think about going international, too. The whole thing could be financed via banner ads from restaurants and shops.

We definitely plan on going international soon.

Currently the map supports it, and users are adding international locations (try putting "rio de janeiro" into the search box ), but the maps just loads as a view of the US. We'll be changing it fairly soon.

I know this would be a lot of work but it would also be nice if there was a repository of smoking regulations for each location. For example, some places like Austin only have a ban in Travis County. If you get out of there, you can smoke.

I think the important thing will be to not only find BM cigar stores but clubs and restaurants and dedicated smoking lounges where we can retreat with a good smoke without being bothered and without bothering anyone.

Ideally it would be a cigar smokers portal worldwide, where one can find places to smoke, places to buy cigars, read news on the cigar world and on tobacco legislation, or perhaps even hook up with smokers worldwide for a herf. A little like the US wide herf pages here but on an international scale. Some membership fee could be required for this, too.

Just a few ideas that have been in my had for a while but which I have no time to realize so I am generous with them.

I can't thank you enough for your suggestions, Till! My initial concept for the site was that it would be populated more with clubs, lounges, and restaurants that are cigar-friendly (they're harder to find using traditional means; google maps, etc). It looks like a lot of what people are adding are cigar shops, which is definitely still a good thing! Eventually we'll have categories of listings (near future).

I agree that I also need to do more regarding information on local cigar regulation. Here in Michigan, we've been lucky so far in that regard, but I know a lot of places are feeling the hurt. That's something that I hadn't thought much about adding to the site until I read your post.

Nice site, but someone's gotta tell them to update. I typed in Myrtle Beach, SC and only one shop showed up on hte map. I can think of 6 alone in that town. The one which did show up I have never heard of before so I will have to check it out next time. They have to have Nick's Cigar World listed on that map!!!

List Nick's Cigar World on the map, that's why the "Add Your Favorite Spot" is on the front page.
