Thompsons ID Check
Has anybody ever gotten the email saying you need to fax your ID to Thompsons for state legal reasons? None of the other online retailers are mandating this. I have seen all of the negative comments about Thompsons but $49 for 15 RP Sun Grown Toro's? C'mon! I had to give it a try! Is this email just the tip of the inconvenient iceburg?

I got one from them and ignored it, I also got one from JR's and ignored that as well. As far as I am concerned they got a choice take my money or not.

As others have mentioned, I've seen talk of Holts sending out a similar email or letter.

As for the price...it's similar to sleeping with Paris Hilton...pretty sweet at the time but not so cool when you find out how many STDs you have. Shopping at Thompsons catches up with you.

I have received a few from Holts in the past and just chuck them. No need for them to have a copy of my license. If they ever decide to not sell to me because of it than there are many other vendors for me to buy sticks from out there. I personally think they send them out because it's probably required by law and if it's ever checked they can probably show proof that they were sent out and just never returned. Probably just a case of covering the @sses.

I must be doing something right then. I've ordered from them a couple times about 10yrs ago and a couple times recently and other than a few catalogs (none in the interim between then and now) and their e-mails that I delete, I've never had a problem with them. They just called me. Or should I say, their phone system just called me. I am getting a sinking feeling. I kinda want to fax them my ID so I can get the RP's but I knda want to let it die. I don't think they will let it die though. I may have already gone too far!

I'm not faxing anyone my driver's license for cigars.
It takes about a dozen keystrokes to validate someone's age if I have their name and address. The internet is a wonderful thing.

Thompson has the worst customer service I've experienced when buying cigars. They keep sending me catalogs. Guess I need to call again and try to get it cancelled. Again.
I got some cigars from them that were moldy.

I just got another call. This time from a real person asking me if I have ever smoked Rocky Patel cigars before. I was in the car so I said I couldn't hear her. I'm sure she'll be calling me back any minute.
