Yellow Cello...
[SIZE=3]So I stopped in at the B&M the other day and only having about $15 dollars on me I wanted to get the most for my money so I settled on get some smaller sized sticks. I picked up a CAO Italia Novella, a CAO Brazilia Piranha and a CAO MX2 Robusto. When I got home and was putting them in my humidor I noticed that the cello on the Italia was slightly yellowed. I don’t think it was from the way they stored because all three of the boxes where in the same case and on shelves one above the other. So the only other reason I can think of is age. How long does it take for cello to start turning yellow? Have these sticks been sitting there awhile because they are the smaller size? Should I go back and buy more??

Re: Yellow Cello...
I have always heard the yellow celo was a sign of good aging. I don't know exactly how long it takes for the celo to turn, I would think that would differ for each cigar depending on the amount of oil in the wrappers, but all the cigars I have smoked with yellow celos have been great.

Re: Yellow Cello...
It depends on the cello.
The cello on Padrons yellows very quickly compared to any other brands I've noticed. Not sure if it's the tobacco or the cello...but there is a difference. I had Padron 6000s that had noticable yellowing after only about 1 year. On the other hand, I have OpusX that are from 1999, that don't look very different from when they were purchased, despite the fact that the bands on them are yellow as hell! Also, if you compare cellos from different brands of cigars, you'll notice that they "feel" different, probably due to different compositions and manufacturing. I'm sure that has something to do with how it will yellow in the future. Storage, light exposure, tobacco, and cello type probably all have influences on how it yellows. IMO, it's not a very good way to tell age on a cigar.

I had a Perdomo Lot 23 from 11/2006 the other day that had cello that had started to turn. It was a very tasty stick.
