The Monocacy Cigar Lodge is born! (Frederick, MD)

[SIZE=3]Some of you may have been following the discussions on Club Stogie to create a cigar club in the Washington, D.C. area ([/SIZE][SIZE=3]http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthread.php?t=131293[/SIZE][SIZE=3]). I am pleased to announce that last Saturday, 3/1, the Monocacy Cigar Lodge (MCL) was born! The final locate has not been determined, but it will be somewhere in or near Frederick, MD. Bryan Winston/Addiction (thread above) is also working to create a club in the Northern VA area, probably west of the Washington, DC beltway. If both clubs are created, we may have reciprocity or “dual” membership between the clubs, but that hasn’t been decided yet.[/SIZE]

[SIZE=3] The MCL will be structured much like the Metropolitan Society in Oak Ridge, NJ (http://www.metrocigar.com). Members will have 24/7 access with a pass card, and will be able to bring in guests for a small, one day “membership” fee (MD law does not allow smoking in any indoor location to which the public has access).[/SIZE]

[SIZE=3] It’s no secret that our rights are being trampled with the relentless onslaught of anti-smoking laws from politicians who make political hay for themselves with this nonsense. Due to this “nanny-ism” from our elected officials who clearly know what is best for us, cigar clubs like this are becoming increasingly popular. [SIZE=3]Here are some pics of the first official meeting of the Monococy Cigar Lodge, long may its banner wave! The preliminary charter for the MCL was voted on, as well as the name. The organization's officers were elected, and a small amount of cash was kicked in by everyone so that a bank account could be opened and to pay for incorporation of the club as a not-for-profit LLC (I hope I got that right).[/SIZE]





Afterwards, we all went to Davidus Cigars in Urbana, MD to, what else, HERF! [SIZE=2]Sergeant Smokey (John) has a big grin on his face because he just got promoted to E5 (now he really is a Sergeant!). Congratulations John,....er Sarge![/SIZE]



While we were there, the store had a special promotion going on for Perdomo cigars. Walt Cukier is the regional sales rep for Perdomo in MD, VA, DC, DE, and WV. He was on hand to sell those tasty Perdomos, and to hand out some free samples. No wonder he's smiling. He has an unlimited supply of free perdomos to smoke!

Many thanks for the kind words Smokey Joe. We still have a long way to go, but at least the ball is starting to roll. There is strength in numbers and unity, so I would encourage all BOTLs/SOTLs to consider joining or even starting a cigar club in your area. If you don't have a smoking ban now, you soon will.

!!!! I noticed the same thing when I first looked at that photo! There is a lady looking at the cigars and pointing to one of the boxes. All that hairy flesh you see is the back of a guy's right arm with his hand in his pocket (his back is to the camera). Nice try ya prevert!

Yes, guests will be allowed. You must be the guest of a member but it will be very casual. Anyone who is there at the time would be happy to bring you in and show you around for free. If you were going to stay and hang out/smoke, you would have to pay a one-day membership fee (probably about $10) to comply with the PSRM law (People's Socialist Republic of Maryland). You could also contact one of the CS guys who is a member when you're in town and you could be their guest.
