Project of the Day : Bail Jar Humidor

This evening I started making some bail jar humi's.
I needed some extra room and wanted something that looked nice but didn't want to look at another wood humidor. I thought it'd be cool to load a bunch of bail jars with sticks that needed some time, but were going to get burned up quickly. I could arrange them on a couple shelves because I had room above my wine coolers and humi.
A few days ago I put up the shelves. Today I painted them.

I've been gathering up bail jars for the last few weeks. Wally has them, they're about 8 bucks. Problem is that the Wally here only had a couple of three different types. I initially wanted them to be all the same, but I decided to go with a few different ones.
The one in the picture below is what they call their medium acrylic Mainstays jar. They're 7" high. The large is 8 1/2".
You can also see the smokes I selected for the pics. They're Santiago Cabana El Original Robustos from the Island Smoke Shop in Key West Florida. Good smokes.
There's also a round hygrometer with a calibration knob, got that from Rob at Taboo. Lastly, there's a round beadbag I made. It's got 5 ounces of HCS beads in it. I needed less than an ounce to take care of the job. I got carried away.

Here you can see the hygrometer in action. I just let it settle down in the void left by the tilted cigars. I found that I could also slide it down the side of the jar and that allowed me a good viewing angle, too.

Here she is all full up of smokes...

Once I gather up enough jars I'll have both shelves mostly lined. I think it's gonna look sweet.
Throughout this week I'll be completely working the cigar area over.
I've got a couple display humi's coming, the rest of my parts for pimping out the wine coolers, and I should have all my jars.
Hopefully I'll be able to get it all done by next weekend.
I bid on a big pile of Padron boxes at ebay to make my control box and I plan to make another set of drawers for in the singles wine cooler.
Everything looks good in my head, I just hope I can get all the things here I need to get moving.

BTW you have mad docu/photo skills.

I was starting to wonder if you where slacking off, cause I hadn't seen a project thread from you in several hours.

Most people's profiles list an average of posts per day but for some reason yours reads an average of "threads per day"

Ok, now here is the challenge. Take the beads you are developing, incorporate them into a Walmart product that can be used as a humidor, find a way to add the band-board you made, then use the stationary as the instruction manual!

I love the stuff you are doing! You need to start sandbaggin though, too many too fast, gotta keep us wanting more.

Should look pretty sweet with them all lined up on the shelves.

One question, you said they were acrylic, would that cause any type of negative effects as aposed to glass?

They have no smell to them at all. I wouldn't have bought them if they did. Wally also has glass bail jars, I got two of them. Right around the same price, 7 or 8 bucks. My guess is that the acrylic may take on smells but the glass isn't going to. If it's any concern at all, I'd suggest going with the glass.

In all reality, with the jar, an ounce of beads (which is about 3 times more than I need for the 137cu.in. jar), and the hygrometer, this jar humi should cost about 25 bucks and will hold about 25 cigars.
Take out the hygrometer that I paid 13 bucks for and it's a $12.00 25 stick humi that looks sexy and works perfectly. It'd look awesome on a desk by itself.
It'll require the maintenance of opening it up once in awhile to let the ammonia off and to allow the cigars some fresh air, but I'm all for playing with my cigars.

I'm not a working pot smoker, I'm a lay on the couch, get stupid, eat and fall asleep pot smoker. So I developed an aversion to it about 20 years ago.
I had a girlfriend once who would clean the whole neighborhood when she got stoned. I could never relate.

Being all about the science I impart this information to you.

Quote:
Sativa's higher THC than CBD equals cerebral, soaring type of high, more energetic which can stimulate brain activity and may produce hallucinations.

The smoke from an Indica is generally a body type stone, relaxing and laid back. Indica's higher CBD than THC equals a much heavier, sleepy type of high. Indica plants have a heavy, stony high that is relaxing and can help different medical problems.
And therein lies the difference between laying on the couch and bee-bopping around cleaning and inventing, what have you.

If one where to go to a "Coffee Shop" in Amsterdam, the person behind the counter who in many cases is also a barista would show you the cannabis menu and if you where not familiar with the items listed he/she would then proceed to explain the differences in terms of the above quote and based
on your needs and/or desires a selection could be made.

"Out of the darkness comes knowledge. Out of the light comes wisdom."

I'd be willing to submit myself to such testing, but merely for good of science.

Re: Project of the Day : Bail Jar Humidor

I finished up the shelf painting and caulking today.
I also finished up all the beadbags for the jars. I loade the jars with some gars, and took some pics.
I still want to get a few more jars, probably glass ones. That way I can put two rows on the top shelf. I'm very pleased with the look, it's what I wanted.
I think it will play well when I get all the other things done to that area.
Here's the pics...
