Re: Large ring gauge?
the larger RG cigars tend to produce more flavor. They are technically a cooler smoke, which makes for a better cigar IMO.

![]() Robusto is my favorite size, but I love the larger RG's too. I don't think I've experienced larger than 60, but I've got plenty of that size and can't wait to try a couple of the nub torps. Especially the Cameroon, my favorite wrapper! I've discovered that smaller RG's get too hot on my tongue, and for me that blocks the flavor.

I was wondering if anyone was going to bring up the Maxx. It's not a stick I grab a great deal, but every time I do I think, I should smoke these more often. |

Re: Large ring gauge?
[SIZE=3]There have been only two large RG's that I've smoked to date and that have been the LGC Series R #6 and the Taboo HSG, both that I've enjoyed very much...

Re: Large ring gauge?
Although I smoke many 50rg or larger. I think most will find much more flavor in smaller RG smokes in direct comparison. As an example, the Pepin lancero's seem to concentrate much of the flavor compared to the larger RG of the same blend. Oliva V's are much the same. One my favorite big smokes is an 11/18 Camacho Triple Maduro, tons of creamy flavors. I just wish they came in a corona or lancero so I could do a direct comparison. According to both Pepin and Fuente, the wrapper contributes a large amount to a cigar's flavor profile. Smaller RG's have a higher wrapper/filler to binder ratio than the big boys. To avoid hot burning in a small stick you need to smoke very slowly, also giving you more time to pick out the flavor nuances.

Re: Large ring gauge?
Ok I'll chime in. I will agree with what some of the others have said about the RP Batallion.
A large RG I cannot recommend enough, is the Olivados Chateau X by El Ray Del Mundo. This is a GREAT smoke! I'm just getting home from having my first NUB. I smoked the 466 cameroon. I smoked with my cousin, who also had a 466. In my opinion, it was pretty unremarkable. Not a lot of smoke. What little I did have was earthy and rather unsatisfying. I was really hoping for a thicker richer smoke given the RG. The NUb just didn't do anything for me, and I can't see myself smoking another. Just my ![]()

Re: Large ring gauge?
I am at a stage where most of what I smoke would fit into the Rothschild/short Robusto size such as JDN Consuls or Hoyo Dark Sumatra Espressos. This size seems to smoke cooler and develop an intense flavor more quickly than the Toros that I had preferred for the last several years. As usual, I do agree with bobarian regarding smaller rg since I find the Marchito to be the most intense and ass kicking cigar in the Antano line and I find the Grand Consul to be the mildest and most balanced cigar in the same line. ![]() I've noticed, however, than anything larger than 54 is not comfortable in my mouth. I prefer anything from 48-54! Thanks for the interesting thread!

So I'll give you a legitimate answer, LoL.It seams I just got over the same type of thing. I was smoking 54+ at the time my favs were LCG Serie R #6 6x60 Mad I called it the "The Huge Black Stick" due to the comments I got from friends when sucking on that thing. If you have seen this cigar you will know that what was said to me was much cruder. When I wanted a shorter smoke I would go for a Gurkha "El Duke" 4x60 Torp. Also when I wanted a cheaper smoke that was also good I went for a Oliveros El Padrino Lucky Lou 6x60 Mad Torp with Italian tobacco and half the price of the others. Now that the Nub is out Thats what I am going to try next so I would say try that one next. |

Re: Large ring gauge?
for me, a big ring gauge is best on a short smoke. Little time, BIG burning surface, LOTS of smoke&flavor.
Haven't tried a NUB yet, but I HAVE been smoking STUMPYs on and off for the past 10 years--4.5x60 love em ![]() |
