Re: This is why we use beads
Its a combination of Propylene Glycol and Distilled Water. Its resists mold and regulates Rh at 70%. But it has some downsides which is why most here prefer beads.

Re: This is why we use beads
I've had that happen in one of my little Savoy desktops. Very small amount of mold, which I've wiped off. Seemed to be a dusting on the cello of one cigar once, but was easily dealt with. I monitor it regularly.
Odd thing is - I've always used only distilled water in it. And the 2 other desktops I have at home have foam humidifiers and have NEVER shown a hint of mold. But I do want to get some beads for all three.

Re: This is why we use beads
Beads are pretty great, but they arent necessarily mold-free. Beads are also susceptible to mold if saturated too much and sitting in 'standing' water

Re: This is why we use beads
How would beads be sitting in standing water. I guess if someone filled up a bowl with water and threw in the beadas that might create a problem but I don't know anyone who would saturate their beads that much.....

Pretty easily, actually. A few extra sprays and they can easily have a bit of water at the bottom

Re: This is why we use beads
To avoid mold you just need to not have mold in your place pretty much. No spores = no mold.

Re: This is why we use beads
Another reason to use beads.....we've had some humid weather around here lately. Not hot outside, just alot of moisture so no need to run the AC. Anyway my humidor with the foam is running too high.....in the low 70s (which would be higher if I didn't periodically open it up just to vent some humidity) while my coolerdor with beads is humming around nicely at 65%. Been meaning to order more beads.
