Question (Cigar) Shock of the month.... any diamonds in the rough?

This thread is one that cant ever hurt being repeated as we are all trying new smokes all the time. so in the last few weeks what smoke has really suprised you? im trying to aim for 'in the positive way' but either one is good (i know, the Opus X's were a bit full and harsh this last quater )

for me i pick the Royal Jamacian Gold (robusto) DAMN! it was tastey, very sweet and citrus-ey with a last little dash of vanilla cream- followed by a little sucker punch of tart at the last last second. very good, maybe box worthy (for me). I didnt see it comming, mostly because if a leaf or filler is that good, you see it in many cigars. so when i smoked this (parcially) jamacian grown stick i was blown away, and wondering why its not more popular.

for 5 bucks thats mine... how about you

I have not enjoyed a Fuente yet...so I was very surprised to find myself smoking the AF Chateau Fuente Sungrown down to the nub. I know it is not a diamond in the rough for most people, because AF is generally a favorite, but this was the first AF that I actually enjoyed.

I recently smoked a Carlos Torano Exodus 1959 Silver Edition Corona Grande and was most impressed with its robust flavor, complexity and fullness. I found it much more enjoyable than I anticipated, based on what I'd heard and read about this line. A fine cigar for a reasonable price.

I bought a CAO CX2 Belicoso to try for the first time in celebration of getting a new job. I can't wait to try it but I think that it will be suprizingly good.

Absolutely! This is the first AF that I have found myself shopping prices. Mucho bang for the buck.

Re: (Cigar) Shock of the month.... any diamonds in the rough?

I was gifted a Belinda Spanish Twist Maduro, with a few years on it, looked very forlorne and slightly tatty, prelight and the first inch did not hold to much promise as overly sweet, I thought of a swisher. But after that it turned in to a very good smoke, full on and distinct. A very pleasent surprise.

Especially as I'd been told it was a $1.50 stick.

Por Larranaga Panetelas

A great 1/2 hour smoke and at a cheap cost as well. You cant go wrong for the money and if you get them from Germany these are not machine made.

Re: (Cigar) Shock of the month.... any diamonds in the rough?

I was at my local B&M talking to the owner. He gave me a smoke called Cuban Leaf, it was a robusto. It was a Cuban but was only $8 Canadadian ! Dirt cheap for a smoke up here. I was dubious, only decent cheap smoke I've found is Jose L. Piedras. I went to my girlfriends and fired it up. WOW, an amazing smoke !! I went back to the shop and bought 10 of them. Guess this is what happens when your B&M gets to know you and your tastes, they sucker you into buying more !

So these are now my Go-To smoke.

Re: (Cigar) Shock of the month.... any diamonds in the rough?

My most recent good surprise was a Gurkha Master Select Toro Grande that was in a sampler I got from Cbid. It was a very delicious and satisfying stick. I seriously need to get a cigar journal so I remember the tasting notes but I remember a very toasty taste and hints of cocoa appeared throughout the smoke especially at the end. Very good smoke.

Re: (Cigar) Shock of the month.... any diamonds in the rough?

I picked up a 5 pack Honduran Creams off CBID for $3. I bid on them because the discription said that they were not flavored cigars. I wasn't expecting much but for less than $1 a stick these were nice smooth cigars!

La finca has always been a nice smoke for a ridiculuosly inexpensive price. I need to re-acquaint myself with the Nicaraguan beauty.
