Cruise smoking
Doing a little research today and thought that this article was fairly up to date, as of last month, and a good reference point to start with if anyone is shopping for a cruise line.

Re: Cruise smoking
I can understand some restrictions on smoking during a cruise as it isn't like the people can leave. I think I'd be happy with being able to smoke on balconies or something. Then again, never been on a cruise so don't really know

Re: Cruise smoking
Won't book a cruise unless it has a cigar lounge......no reason to be on vacation and NOT be able to relax with a stick.......

Re: Cruise smoking
I just got back from Princess Cruises in the Mexican Riviera.
-You can smoke on the balcony of the staterooms that have them. -You can smoke cigars in the cigar lounge just on the backside of the casino. In fact, cigar smokers have a daily gathering at 5PM (sanctioned by the Princess cruiseline) -You can smoke on the open decks; that is anything that isn't covered by another deck or areas that aren't enclosed by outer rooms. -You can not smoke cigars or pipes in the casino. -You can not smoke anything you bought that was sold in/with a glass-top humidor. i've done all the research on this so...you guys just shoot me some email if you have questions. CruiseCritic.com is a great site for all things cruise related! |

Re: Cruise smoking
My wife and I went on a cruise to Hawaii for our honeymoon on Norwegian Cruise Lines last August. The boat had a very nice cigar lounge/bar and I was excited at the chance to enjoy a stick or two while we had some downtime. Oddly enough, smoking was not allowed in the cigar lounge. We were able to purchase them, but the only place "cigars" were allowed was on the top deck. Cigarettes however could be smoked in the rooms and room balconies. With the wind on the top deck it would have made it difficult to really enjoy a good cigar. Next time I'll be sure to check the facts before booking.

Re: Cruise smoking
Princess was great about them. I just took a "Made it back from Iraq" cruise in January with Princess.
I had an outside balcony and smoked out there all the time. I had two elderly ladies next door and downwind, so I told them I would only smoke when they weren't outside. They quickly told me that they loved the smell of my cigars and hoped I would be smoking more. Oh, and late one night I was out enjoying one in the dark and heard some crazy sounds from above. I'll save you the details, but I got to enjoy a Cuban Cohiba Especial while watching the show put on by a couple of voyeurs. Will |

Re: Cruise smoking
All Royal Caribbean ships have either a really nice dedicated cigar bar or a cigar friendly bar on the top of the ship. No smoking at the pool decks (not even cigarettes I think) and no cigars in the casino. You can smoke in the rooms with balconies.
You can usually smoke in the bars on off times. If nobody is around you, I say light up but if it's packed you'd better check with the bartender. I tip heavily so I don't recall ever being told 'no'. |

I've done two cruises with NCL - Pride of Aloha and the Pride of Hawaii - the most recent being July '06 - The lounge was open 24 hours a day (with a waiter/steward on hand), and they had "cigars under the stars" every night on the main deck. Granted, the prices were extreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeemely inflated, but they had no issues with me bringing my caddy in and passing out smokes - funny thing - of all the guys there, I was the only one still on Active Duty - three retired Navy, four former marines, one retired Army....and ME! Great memories and pics from that cruise. Just surprised to hear that NCL doesn't allow smoking in their lounge??? |
