Second with Vipers beads I wet them and used the same test, within 10 minutes my Hygro read 65%. If sometime they come down to where they are supposed to be I'll be happy, but I'm damn glad i tested these first instead of ruining boxes of smokes.....
Holy Crap!

Anyway, I just took out my whole pound of beads and laid them out. tiny variations in size but no lumps the size of a bowling ball, etc, and they hold at 65% perfectly for weeks now. I suspect PEBKAC.

WOW What's your problem?? You need pictures?? And why resort to a personal attack?? I have been using other beads for months now without a problem and understand the fundamentals of why they work the way they do. anyway I said Jelly beans no bowling balls....

The top ones by the Conservagel beads and the bottom right corner are Vipers, most of the large conservagels split in half alreay..

OMFG they split ALREADY?!?!?!

Heh, no attack intended, I was just amused by the intense drama over a few lumps of silica, a simple product that probably all comes from the same place anyway.

You're right though, those red ones DO look like jelly beans.

Anyway they've worked perfectly for me so far, not-so for you. Good luck with your viper beads (which are also excellent BTW).

Yeah lucky I had some actual jelly beans left over from Easter to show the size of those puppies! most of the smaller ones that are closer to the size of the Viper beads are fine but that was the last of the Jelly Beans left and its on its way to splitting

My conserva 65% beads have been sitting over a month in the humi and maintain a good 63%-65% at all times.

Yeah I'm really hoping a little time helps, I'm trying to work something out with Nik at Bargain Humidors, he tried to call me which is a sign of good customer service. I was at work, and it sucks but my work schedule conflicts with their business hours.

Re: Why don't I ever listen to the little voice....

I've had my beads for about a week now, and they are holding steady at 64-66% in both of my desktop humi's. For the $7 per half pound I paid during the 30% off sale, I'm very happy.

Seriously, just get Bargain Humidors beads, or Vipers if you want the 'mental security' or whatever. Don't risk hundreds of dollars of cigars to save $10. It's tough when you wanna jump in on some sticks but have to lay out $ on the propa setup, but very much worth it.

Put some money into a decent humidor and beads and post in the n00bie trade thread. The FOG's here will set you up with some decent sticks to get you started.

If you don't wanna do the n00b thread ( i dunnno why, but) i'll even spot you a few sticks. I'll put together a sampler and you send back whatever, whenever. Just get yourself a good setup to keep them at 65%.

Re: Why don't I ever listen to the little voice....

[SIZE=4]UPDATE [SIZE=2] I have wet the beads and let them sit in the open and dry out several times now. Now when I have them in the tupperware with my hygro they are at 66%. Going to let it sit overnight and see what happens but it looks like this will end a happy story! So I rescind my previous statement.

Re: Why don't I ever listen to the little voice....

Is it possible that they were too wet originally? I have used both Viper's and Conservagel beads, and never a difference performance-wise. There's even a member here (shilala?) that uses regular (untreated) silica to humidify his cigars. From what I remember reading, he just "sets" them and they work. I'm cheap, so I buy the conservagel stuff.

Could be but, I would say I had about the right mix of wet beads and dry beads. What I think it was, was that these needed to crack and split, they were alot bigger than the beads from Heartfelt, and now that a majority of them have split or shattered there is more surface area for the moister to come and go. Silly theory I know..... but its all I could come up with. The beads that I haven't got wet still read 77 on they're first wetting. Could it be that these need a bit of break in. I'll report my findings
