Why don't I ever listen to the little voice....

Wanted to add some more beads to my Avanti Wine cooler to help the RH stabilize faster after the cooling cycle. I have a pound of Heartfelt 65% in there already. Stupid me, instead of using a product I know and trust to work like it is supposed to, I try to save a buck and buy the Conservagel from Bargainhumidors. [SIZE=4]People Please, Please, Please[/SIZE], don't waste your money like me!!!! This is crap, it sucks, doesn't work. I wet some of the beads, and put them into mesh bag, put them into a tupperware container with 2 of my calibrated digital Hygros. 78% yes thats 13 % over the advertised RH. Its been sitting all evening and every time I open it, let some fresh air in and it drops to the 40% in the house. I seal it back up and bam, same thing. I even took some of my Heartfelt beads and put them in waited 10 minutes, and I get 65% on the dot. Live and learn I guess, I'm never buying beads from anybody but Viper......

Thanks for the tip. I have extra 65% beads from heartfelt that I am sure I will need in the near future, but it is good to know I made the right choice.

I was also hoping to save a little money, and ordered a half pound of these. They just came today, so I sure hope you got a bad batch or something. I really don't want to/can't really afford to buy any more beads.

I had the same problem with the Conservagel beads. Mine were holding at about 77% (supposed to be 65%) so I contacted them and after a couple days of checking them in a plastic bag they still were high. They had me send them back(my cost), they kept them for a few days then contacted me and said that the beads were working fine. They sent them back to me and they are now holding at 66%. Your guess is as good as mine as to whats up, but I doubt that I will buy any more of these beads.

Actually your probably right. I had forgotten that the beads that are holding 66% are the ones that I did "not" send back. They just had me send back the ones that hadn't been used yet. The ones I re-used sat for about 10 days drying out until they contacted me and said the ones I sent back were fine, then I retried the ones I had kept. Problem was, the humi that I had initially put them in ended up having a couple of the stix get really damp which didn't make me too happy.

I got a pound a month back and they are working just fine. They're just beads, it aint rocket surgery, they probably all get their beads from the same underage-slave using chinese factory anyway.

These are in no way Close to the beads Viper sells, first off size wise they are all over the place. I had some "globs" the size of Jelly beans. Second with Vipers beads I wet them and used the same test, within 10 minutes my Hygro read 65%. If sometime they come down to where they are supposed to be I'll be happy, but I'm damn glad i tested these first instead of ruining boxes of smokes.....

Your right, but apparently it's possible they can receive a bad batch as this was one of their concerns when I contacted them. They are working fine now, I just hadn't read anywhere that they needed to acclimate for a long period of time. My first post may have sounded a little harsh, sometimes my mouth (in this case my fingers) gets in gear before my brain.
