Anyone Use Pre-Paid Credit Cards for Smokes?

I was in Wally World this afternoon and noticed they have pre-paid
Visa cards you can buy.

Well, since having just paid off all our credit cards and the wifey and I
both agreeing to not use our cards anymore and finally stick to a budget,
I thought these would be great for buying smokes.

No more balances on credit cards, and when I have some cash, I load up
the pre-paid card for ordering online.

Is this goofy, or does anyone else do this?

I have not done it, but that sounds like a fine idea for a person not wanting to carry any debt! Go for it. You can sure stick to a budget that way.

I just tried using one for a international order, it didn't work. I was told they could not be used for international e-tailers.

I had thought about using these to buy out of country cigars. I case the store is shady, not much damage can be done.

One thing: they don't work outside of the US. I got one as a gift for a trip to Canada & it was useless up there. So if you're looking to purchase from companies offshore, they most likely won't work. But I've used it to buy off of the internet & it worked fine.

why not use a Delta Sky Miles card to purchase your cigars, then just pay it off every month and reap the reward of eventual free plane tickets to be used on your next vacation???

I thought that's what everyone was doing.

Thats what I did, worked like a charm. Like you, when ordering from over-seas I get a little paranoid about using a card thats linked to my banking info. Cant do much damage with a pre-pay card.

Actually just thought it made sense for someone trying
to stay on a budget and not rack up their credit cards,
(ie. - you know, the SLOPE!)

Plus, momma doesn't know this way!

Yea, I have used a pre-paid AMEX on CI.
Works fine
Offshore, however, as people have said, probably won't work.

These prepaid CCs are a great way to launder extra or spare cash into cigars and avoid questions at home when the credit card bill comes.

I once wondered if a pre-paid card would make international purchases less traceable, but found that you had to register the card and provide your address before you could use it for a web purchase, so I didn't think it would help.

Using one for budget control would be fine, tho.

That is the only thing that I use. Mine always worked for international orders as well.

I actually considered one for similar reasons as already mentioned.
Great way to spend what you have and not spend what you don't.
Sort of like using a Check Visa Card.
I then realized I can just use my Check Visa Card in the same way.
I can only spend what I have.

The one thing I did hear about these Pre-Paids is the possibility of fraud.
Don't recall exactly how they did it but some scams were going around where they got the info on the card before you bought it.
Once you activated it, they were able to clean it out.
May be a thing of the past by now but google it and do some research on how to protect yourself from fraud with it.
