Here you'll see the spacers being removed and a picture of the sides with the glides glued and ready. If you look at the previous brick picture, you'll see that I used the first already glued side to sammich the second not dried glued side.
That serves to focus the weight on the glides, making sure all the available weight is where it's needed. Makes for a very strong glue joint.

Not even close.
Keep trying!!!
There isn't a chest in there. Honest.
The mother lode is guaranteed to land Wednesday, if that's any consolation.

Now it's time to determine the width of the base and top.
Rather than rely on measuring, I like to mock up the drawer and sides. That way if there are any imperfections, it's automatically compensated for.
I add a shy 1/8" to the overall measurement so that the drawers have room to glide. That small space also allows for the drawers to still glide unimpeded despite expansion and contraction.
All that rigamorole allows me to find the width of my base.
I will determine the depth of my base by measuring the length of the drawer. Once again, I'll add maybe 1/16". Bigger is always better because I can always take a little off later if necessary. Too small and it's too bad. I'm out of luck.

Re: Project of the Day : A Couple Chest of Drawers for the Winadors. Lots of Pics!!!

In this picture I've begun gluing the sides together with the base and top.
This is where it's best to be in a perfectly serene state of mind because it takes hands, feet, asscheeks, and anything else you have to hold the pieces and get the clamps on.
Then, when you get it all together and check it, it's customary to take a clamp off to fix a corner that's crooked. That where everything falls apart and falls on the floor.
Then it's time to start again.
I've gotten very good at this for just that reason.
I've had a lot of practice.
The bow means nothing. Sometimes it stays.
We'll use the back board to straighten that out later.

Yeah, thay are pretty. Thanks for noticing.
UPS already came and took the box. Just don't look for it on Wednesday. It'll probably still be wherever the UPS guy sits it on Thursday.
It's funny you mentioned that because I've already taken measures to back this thing up to Thursday if need be.
I think of everything.

Re: Project of the Day : A Couple Chest of Drawers for the Winadors. Lots of Pics!!!

In this pic you'll see the last side clamped and the back at the ready.
Once the back is glued and clamped, it's time for the drawers (provided nothing is screwed up).
Now it's time for sanding and staining and drawer pulls and tags and all the other fluff that sexes up a chest.
All that is self explanatory and to taste.
I may or may not ever do any more to these drawers.
I am thinging of knob pulls and some of those sweet brass filing cabinet things that you slide a card in. That'd be nice to add a little style to the chest.
I could also add something to the face of the chest to doll up that lead edge.
Whether I will or not is to be determined.
Hope you enjoyed the ride!!!

If this was my project the pics with the hand would be missing two fingers. Very nice, can't wait to see it finished.
