Its so damn riduculous. A company as big as UPS should not be caving into the PC police. This isn't good news at all. I think if it continues like this, the cost of shipping will go up for cigars.

Don't worry, they will get around to cigars, and FEDEX will cave just like UPS. Not to sound negative, but this just seems to be the trend. The anti-smoking lobby has lots of lawyers, so do the states that are trying to collect the taxes. At least the brick and mortar stores will get more bussiness, if it's still legal...

I hate to be the one to say it but just cuz they are going after cigarettes does not mean your cigar's are safe. This is the same divide and conquer tactics the Liberals tried sucessfully to pursue against the gun culture. The "Assault Weapons" Ban passed because the powers that be in the NRA were divided by the "not my hunting guns" approach and failed to adequetly fund the campaign to fight it. Today they will come for your Glock tomorrow they will be back for your Grandpa's Lever rifle.

Well today, one of the largest shippers in the US and possible the world will no longer ship cigarettes, guess what's next. Your right, Fed EX will fall and then they will find it impossible to distinguish cigars from cigarettes so my cigars will fall too. Did you read how the article was shaming the USPS about the issue of shipping tabacco products. Well guess what, If they fall we will be hand delivering our PIF's and Trades from here on in.

This is not a constitutional issue I realize, this one is about revenue. When they (the powers that be) see money at stake its like a shark smelling blood in the water, this will not go away on its own.
I don't profess to have the answer unfortunately, but I can see the problem and it will not be self correcting. If we allow this to happen to our bastard step cousin's of the leaf and additives, we will be next for sure.

Man this annoys me!! The honest truth is that smokers (any kind) are a minority of voters yet large contributors to state coffers. I would love to see how the public would react if they started to charge state tax on all electronic shipments, you would see some pissed off people. I wonder how much states loose a year general goods shipped from out of state vendors. Or better yet maybe the states will sue ebay to charge state tax. These are strange times we are seeing when it comes to business. Whats next? Checkpoints at state borders to check for contraband?

This seems to be a taxation issue more than it's a underage issue which if that's the case, it would seem to make more sense for the government to change the way mail-order items are taxed. Right now, you're not taxed for mail order items if the company is not in your state, but you are supposed to report it on your state taxes and pay for it.

I agree with the dawn of the internet and the boom of mail order and ebay, that there the states are losing a lot of tax money b/c it's not reported but to fix that problem by banning shipments is ridiculous. That would be like the US stopping terrorists by banning foreigners from flying into the US.

This may be a time to be cautious without panicking. There are two issues here and they need to be kept separated. Non- taxed cigarettes have been a big bootleg item for many years. Carriers not taking bootleg cigarettes is merely compliance with long standing laws. This is a completely different issue from the PC police using these existing laws to harrass cigar smokers. We still have rights. There are no current laws being violated by shipping cigars to individuals.
