Who would vote for longer caps on cigars?

Although new to custom stogies, I sure wish the caps were another 1/4 longer, especially on the torps and pyramids...I had a Diablo that came with a sampler pack I got from TC about two months ago and I snipped the tip not more than 1/4" and it immediately came unwrapped....so I took the second one and cut about an 1/8" off but I could not draw through that tiny hole in the end. So out came the drawpoker tool and the minute I put it in the tip the cigar split (not just the wrapper). Does anyone else wish the caps were a little longer.........

I do as well. Lately, I've not had much of a problem, but by the time I get half way through a cigar, I've got the end chewed to hell and sometime it does start coming off. It'd be nice to have a little longer cap to prevent that.

I tend to just "scalp" the ends of my cigars and rarely have a problem. No cigar is perfect and there is always gonna be that dud.

I think storage conditions have a lot to do with problems like this....I dont mean to toot my own horn. But I'm getting at the point in my cigar hobby where I can just feel a smoke...ya know give it a good squeeze, a look over and a nice sniff and I know shes ready to burn.

Re: Who would vote for longer caps on cigars?

My vote is for shorter caps. I may be wrong but I don't think these are meant to be structural per se. Typically I cut the depth of a palio holding the cigar vertical on a flat surface. Most Cuban cigars it removes all 3 caps. When there is a little cap material left.. it usually ends up in my mouth at some point in time. Torps are different, usually cut shallow until the draw is determined. You can always cut more. You might try putting the cigar in your mouth moistening the head a bit before you cut. Sometimes dull/cheap cutters or bad technique can pinch the cigar causing the wrapper glue to break it's hold at the head.

I noticed I had this problem a lot...until I got a Palio. Now I think the cigar stays together out of fear...

In all seriousness though that Palio makes one hell of a clean cut.

It depends on the cigars, the Padron thousand series line sure needs bigger caps. I've only smoked 2, both unraveled on me because of how tiny the cap is and it makes it difficult to clip.
