Re: The Bambino rolled his own cigars
Very well, I respect your way of thinking, must be nice - kind of makes life challenging but to each his own.

Don't see any need for someone to forge a picture of the Bambino(obviously from his early years) sitting at a cigar rolling table. The guy was amazing in how much he could eat and drink- among other things! Alas, we know that his high living took him to an early grave. |

Re: The Bambino rolled his own cigars
1) Pretty small hands for such a big guy
2) Hands are a different tone than his face 3) Elbows on the suit are much lighter than shoulders 4) The back is angled wrong to the bottom of the picture. If he was to sit up straight his shoulders would be about 2 feet below his head. 5) Very poor fitting suit for one of the richest guys in America at the time, yet the shoulders are perfectly fitted. My guess is the advertising company put a cheap suit on one of the workers, then doctored the photo to have Ruth in it, purely as a publicity move.

YEAH!
. . . But I still think it's a nice picture. P.S. I'll leave it to ebay or auction house to decide its authenticity.

Even in contrasting pixellation you'll have enigmas and you're a fool to trust them.

Re: The Bambino rolled his own cigars
I dont think the picture is a fake and I know he owned a cigar comp. in Boston but I do not believe he rolled those cigars. No one needs to get all puffy chested. its just an opinion and we all know the old saying.

Re: The Bambino rolled his own cigars
Perhaps this will put the argument to rest. The picture is in the Library of Congress digital photography collection under the name of "Babe Ruth rolls 'em down a new groove." The photograph was published in 1919 by Underwood and Underwood. As to the question about him rolling the cigars, a previous poster mentioned that he learned to roll cigars in the boys school where he was raised. In addition, another poster mentioned that he had a share in a cigar factory in Boston. A little research also shows that he used to visit the Optimo factory in Tampa and would put on a rolling demonstration while there. It is not unreasonable to suggest that those cigars in front of Ruth were his work.
