Need advice: Vinotemp vs....?

Hi all--I'm hoping to get some advice. I've seen tons of postings about the relative merits of Vinotemp for storage. I am absolutely ready to make the leap (it's just too damned expensive to run the AC 24/7)--but my question is this: Why Vinotemp vs. another brand of wine cooler? Is it a cost issue? Or is Vinotemp superior to other coolers?

Your advice is greatly appreciated.

My WAG is that the 28 bottle VT, available at Target for 150-200 can't be matched in price for size of unit. Do some comparisons of like units and let us know what you find.

Thermoelectric or thermostatic? I was thinking of picking this one up: http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html...sin=B000QF3WY0

what do you think?

That's the exact unit I was looking at--how do you like it? Dedent temp control? Are you using beads? Thanks for your feedback--it really is appreciated.

I know it may seem pricey but do it....you wont regret it. I didn't

Check out that link....tells you EVERYTHING you need to know about setting up your vinotemp.

I use 65% beads & it is rock solid in the boxes at 65%.

As long as it's a thermoelectric unit it should work fine.

Thermoelectric is refering to the means of cooling, thermostatic is refuring to the controlls. The thermoelectric uses a Peltier element to provide cooling, basically solid state. A compressor unit is using gas and a condensor to provide the cooling.

The great thing about the Vino to me is that the thermostat is in the range we want for cigars, where as other wine coolers will not go that high. I started with an Avanti that wouldn't really go above 58. Though 58 isn't a real problem, it gets hard to stabalize RH when it gets below 60.

Re: Need advice: Vinotemp vs....?

Wine Enthusiast is another brand. I bought the 12 bottle size on sale, including a $20 coupon, for $77.49 at Linens 'n Things. It's enough for my needs. WE makes larger sizes and also has a one year warranty. Vinotemp has a 3 months warranty.

I looked into this topic a couple of months ago and, aside from the occasional overstock.com special, this is about as good as it gets. I guess Target buys these things 10,000 at a time and gets a good price.

If you can stand a smaller unit, there are less expensive ones. But then one drunken evening in front of cigarbid.com and you are all full.

If you want to go bigger the $/unit of storage goes up.
