Taboo Question

Huh, if I didn't know everyone knew of Taboo the title could be misconstrued and people may have been disappointed when they read my post.
Anyway, I am finally going to break down and purchase some Taboo cigars to sample. The feedback has been great and seeing pics here and on another board( I know I have been unfaithful) I decided, why fight it and quit being a pus and buy some.
So my question is what to try? Now for some background on where I am lately to help point me in the right direction. My regular go to smokes the last couple months have been Pepin Blue, Pepin Black. Tat Havana VI, Oliva V and my old faithful LFD Ligero lines. So what in the Taboo lineup do you think would fit my current palate and what would I enjoy the hell out of????? Looking forward to your responses. Thanks in advance!

Re: Taboo Question

I think you'll like the Special Forces Original blend. I've only had one from a sampler pack I just got (the robusto) and really liked it. And I, too, have been smoking mostly Tat Havanas, Pepin Blues and some JJs, so pretty full smokes overall. The SFO is strong and rich without being harsh and I'm eager to see how they are with a little rest time.

Try one of the samplers! That's how I got started, and you can decide what you like best! If you like strong, full-bodied cigars, I would suggest Special Forces Original & Special Forces Boot Camp. You can also call Rob & talk to him directly! Enjoy!

The SF OB is by far their strongest stick. The others are more mild to medium. I actually like the African Cameroon a lot.

Now when you say strongest, does it have a lot of flavor and dimension or is it just meant to be a powerhouse with little to no complexity to it? I really enjoy a nice strong and spicy smoke but I no longer like the just punch me in the face strong with no memorable characteristics other than pure power.
Thanks everyone for your recommendations. I am really looking forward to some of these!

Re: Taboo Question

Buy one each of the samplers and try them all

Thats what I did. Not sure if they need some rest though, I smoked one after 3 days and had some burn trouble. Like it was too wet. So I decided to give them some more rest. Mind you not enough trouble to complain, just enough that I think it was too wet.

Re: Taboo Question

The SFO is fabulous. The Twist is rockin, too.
Try those two.

Re: Taboo Question

I'll second the recommendations to try the sampler. I recently order a sampler and some other cigars from Taboo, and so far I've been very impressed, and will most certainly order again.

Re: Taboo Question

I've just burned my first three Taboo SFOs over the last three nights, had one of each size and liked the torpedo and robusto the best. I like a lot of the same smokes that you do, and enjoyed these very much. Construction and burn were great on mine.

I just received the sampler with the freebies. I am going to let them rest a bit. Shipping time is fast.

Two great smokes, but the sampler is a good way to try them and and see what you like.

Re: Taboo Question

I agree that the SF sticks are probably going to be right up your alley - the Twists are by no means a strong stick but they do offer complexity and are so tasty. I have ordered ALOT of sticks from Rob and the majority have been for gifts (I have another box of twists in route for myself so dont misconstrue as a giveaway stick).

That is how much I liked them - it would be hard to find better PR and customer service than these guys. All around class act!

- that Cameroon surprised me at how good it was. Nice morning cigar. I typically like a stronger smoke but this was excellent.

Also try the Honduran Sun Grown (HSG). Of course, as is typical with these kind of questions, by the time everyone gives their opinion all the cigars in the line will be listed as cigars to try.

So buy a sampler like others have said then you can make up your own mind.

I was worried about this with the Special Forces. Like you, I enjoy strong/full cigars but want them to have some "redeeming" qualities besides the kick-in-the-ass nicotine punch. On that score, I found the Original blend to be good - strong but with some nice taste and complexity. And that was the robusto fresh out of the box. Hoping they'll develop even more subtleties w/ some age. Incidentally, Rob was nice enough to sell me a mixed Original/Boot Camp sampler and I suspect he'd do the same for you. Hope this helps.
