Question about JR and Coolers

I will be headed up to Virginia this weekend and on my way back will be stopping by JR in Selma. My budget is really tight and so I won't be able to pick up much, but what should be a must buy, say in the under $50 range?

Additionally, my fiance had to buy a cooler to use for her class on a field trip tomorrow, so I have claimed it when she is done to be converted into a coolerdor. Can I get beads from the JR store? Can I get a hydrometer from the JR store? I have browsed the coolerdor threads and I believe with that, I have the bases covered. Anything else I am missing?

Thanks in advance

I was there in March. Best I can remember, you can get a hygrometer, but no beads. What to buy? Maybe a few five packs to sample different brands. Whatever is for sale in the catalog is also on sale there. Have fun shopping!

JR carries consuegras. The #9 maduro is great and a good buy at under 25 bucks a bundle. the five pack prices are also pretty good.

Re: Question about JR and Coolers

Try to get a 5 pack of Ramon Allones Gustoso. They are about 13 bucks and are a real steal at that price. CA had them as one of the top 100 Cigars of 2006(7?). They are quite tasty and JR has the best prices on them.

Re: Question about JR and Coolers

Unless you are going to be away for a week the sticks should be OK on thier own (in bags or cello) in the cooler for a weekend.

I would recommend ordering the beads and digital hygro from heartfelt today and then they will most likely be waiting for you when you get back.

Re: Question about JR and Coolers

Thanks for all the advise. I have jotted these suggestions down and will take them with me when I go.

An awesome BOTL has offered to send me a half pound of beads. Thanks ssutton219. I will grab a hygrometer from JR (along with some of these sticks) and will have my coolerdor rolling and filling up by the time I get back.

What is this slope you talk about?

Re: Question about JR and Coolers

Another question (I guess I can threadjack since it is my own thread)

I live in an apartment, and it gets pretty warm and doesn't cool well. What would be the best way to keep it cool? I would hate to get some cigars in the cooler and them be ruined because of the temperature being too high in the cooler.

I have searched and found people using the blue ice as a way to control temps. Can anyone weigh in on the effectiveness on them. It's going to get pretty hot down here in Georgia during the summer.

Actually, the best part of going to a JR store is you get to see ALL the Connies. you can dig thru the display & try to find the connies with yellow cello, usually some unloved size/vitola. Instantly aged Connies!

The JR stores also usually have buy 3/get 1 free specials. I'd probably spend $50 on just different singles.
