Smoked the new La Aurora Barrel Aged today..

Picked one up locally for about 8 bucks for the heck of it, haven't heard the reviews on this one yet. Said its aged in casks previously used for Dominican Rum. I'm no experienced reviewer so I'll let others chime in and just say it was about a medium smoke with an enjoyable sweet-spice aroma. No stupid artificial rum taste or anything like that, smoked like a decent cigar. Not sure if the cask aging thing is a gimmick or it really effects the taste but all in all I'm happy with the purchase. I'll keep it in mind next time I'm at the B&M.

I agree. For what it is, it's not a gimmicky rum cigar. However, for 8 dollars, I'd take any number of their other robustos (such as the 1495 Ecuadorian)

My first one was horrible... It was completely bland with no flavor and the damn thing kept going out (about 6-8 times) before I threw it in lol...

But that was only one and it could be a bad one so I need to try again!

Everyone else who has tried one loves them.

Thanks for the infor, I have been thinking about trying one of those. I wonder if some age will bring more flavors out.

Shouldn't be $8 unless taxes are high where you are; try a sampler online from Holts, one of each vitola for 26.95.

Definitely let these sit at 65% for a month or so; they seem to be coming in wetter than hell and I don't believe they're smoking right just yet.

Once I sample some of my recent batch that's been sitting almost the right time, I'll post a review and have a better idea of possible aging potential.

I got the sample two weeks ago from Holts. I'm going to wait a few weeks before I light one up.

they smoke well at 65%, take them out of the cell, and let them rest a couple of hours.

Re: Smoked the new La Aurora Barrel Aged today..

thxs for the review.. la aurora company no gimmick.. some people get the aging in a barrel mix up with infusing the cigar people actually look for the alcohol taste when they think of aging in a barrel of rum... and thats not the case... ...
