Overboard on humidity?

I am curious how people feel in general about humidifying shipments.
Personally, I have yet to receive cigars that included a humidity pack, and I'm fine with that.
I think we sometimes get carried away on the humidity issue. If something is being sent priority mail, it usually arrives in 2-3 days, is humidity really that important? If they were properly stored before shipment they should hold the proper humidity for a couple days without any help. In actuality the temperature during shipment is probably more of an issue than the RH.

I just think we sometimes get carried away with this issue

How do you guys feel?

Re: Overboard on humidity?

I don't freak about it. I usually try to put smokes in a zip lock at the least. As long as you ship Priority you should have no worries especially this time of year. Like you mentioned, I freak out about the heat more. I hate when the mailman puts the Priority box next to my black front door that gets sun all afternoon. That's when I get nervous as the box gets pretty toasty. Can't blame him though. He's just doing his job and he's not a mind reader either. That's why those sticks go into quarantine along with all new shipments as I still am not comfortable with the idea of freezing my smokes.

Re: Overboard on humidity?

I have re-humidified smokes after a good 3 or 4 weeks with no humidification whatsoever and they smoke great. I just give new smokes a good week or two in the humi before smoking and never have any probs.

Ditto. Arizona, and my mailbox is one of those big metal jobbers that everybody on the block shares. It's like an oven just standing outside, it's gotta be WAY worse inside that thing! ~KD

Re: Overboard on humidity?

On a cigar board; you get people who are taking their hobby to the next level. So all elements of cigar smoking are magnified. C'mon... humidity, cutter, humis, etc. All things get over-examined with a fine tooth comb. I have friends who have been smoking for years and laugh at my ways. They get a box of cigars and leave it out for a day or two. They don't worry too much. Even my B&M gave me grief. I was looking for an extra digital hygro and he asked me if my smokes tasted ok? I said yes then he asked me why was I worrying and feeling I needed to buy another hygro.

Then it dawned on me... cigar smoking is for relaxation. Not for obsessing. Yet, easier said than done. Lately my obsessing is over the Daily Joe deal on CI.

Re: Overboard on humidity?

Like most others, the heat bothers me more then the humidity. Cigar.com always ships with a water pillow, I don't think it is always necessay, but it is a nice extra.

Re: Overboard on humidity?

I understand shipping with humidification if the package is in transit for a long time, but 3 days in a ziploc is ok to me. The water pillows worry me as they seem to drip sometimes if I use one I put it in a separate bag surrounding the cigars which are in 5 finger bags. But with that said the little humipacks are a nice touch to a package.

Yeah I think it is more of a gesture that says, "we care about the quality of the smokes we send you." NewHavana has developed a good reputation in this way as they pack their somkes extremely well. I ordered some Tats from them rather than another, cheaper, place I had never heard of for that reason.

Interesting you say that. I was in my B&M the other day and picked up three sticks and a few other supplies. I wasn't paying any attention when he bagged everything up and when I got home and opened the ziploc he had placed a water pillow in there with my sticks. Only three smokes and bought locally. First time I ever had that happen and in my opinion it just added to this guys reputation and the care he gives his customers.

First impressions make a lasting impression. I buy from them for that reason also.
