Storing Lots of Cigars

I have a question I am probably going to take a lot of heat for...

Why does everyone store soo many cigars? Ive trolled this board for some time before I joined and have read all about the proverbial slope (have actually started drawing closer to it) but why does everyone have soo many cigars "in stock" It seems like people have more coming in then they smoke so is it for aging purposes? If so, not all cigars are better with age right? Do you want to age some of them and hand them down? If so do you smoke the ones that dont age as well? Just curious.

so every time i smoke a cigar I have a lot of choice - and so that once any of them are aged, I will still have choice

Re: Storing Lots of Cigars

for me, it's an addication, not to the smoking, but to the buying.
there are so many out there I want to try, and so many good deals on them.

when i see something I want to try, I but it, and then i find i have no room, and have to buy a biger humi, or cooler...

Re: Storing Lots of Cigars

I can only speak for myself.

I have a couple reasons for storing cigars (and I "only" have around 200 or so).

One reason is once I have found one that I like a lot, I will buy a box, especially if it is on sale, for the price per stick discount. I like to know that I have some on hand at all times.

As I have thought about this (because I asked myself the same question you posed) I came to the realization that I like to buy cigars. For me it feels like I am purchasing future relaxation. If I am stressed I can buy some cigars, subconsciously thinking, "I am buying down time on the back patio, relaxing." And I can NEVER have too much of that stored up!

Personally some are for aging, some because I know I'll never be able to get them again (at least not at an astronomical price), and of course some for smoking. Also some because I have a problem.

Re: Storing Lots of Cigars

very simple explanation here.

How many feet do women have?

How many pairs of shoes do women have?

It's all about the choices.

Re: Storing Lots of Cigars

A few thoughts:

1. Ageing - some do taste better with age
2. The one time good deal you have to jump on - cuz they'll never be this low priced again.
3. Some folks like a lot of everything - gotta have space.
4. Some sticks are one time runs or very limited ie: Punch Rare Corojos come out once a year, so when sold, they are gone. Not the best example but close enough.
5. Some of us have an addiction to the buying!

The number of cigars is directly proportional to your testosterone level. More cigars = more manly.

This is the kinda thing I was looking for and did not know. Like brands that come in once a year, or rare stuff you should jump on. And the aging thing is still kind of a mystery, like how to know if it is better aged or fresh, etc. And how long to age.

It's called T.A.D. (Tobacco Acquisition Disorder).

Mostly, for me it's when I see a good price on a brand I like.

I like to have a variety of cigars on hand. I don't like to smoke the same thing day in day out. Some cigars I like to save for special occasions. Before you know where you are, you're on your second 12 gallon cooler.

I'm still a smoker, though. Cigar collectors are on a whole different plane.

Re: Storing Lots of Cigars

I like having a variety of cigars to smoke. Half the fun is in rooting around in the humidor looking for tonight's perfect smoke. Trying new cigars leads to buying more cigars. I like sharing cigars with my friends and taking them out on the slope. Trading, gifting and bombings are reasons to buy more cigars. I like the term resting and it does seem to improve the taste of a good cigar, but it's all of the above for me.

Re: Storing Lots of Cigars

I've only been smoking cigars for a few months on a regular basis, and already I've developed a wallet threatening disease called Joecigarris. I could smoke 4 sticks a day and as long as I check Joe's 211 times a week, I'm certain I'll find something worth buying.
