Re: Who here likes Candela wrappers?
I am of the opinion that all cigar leaf has some virtue, though I have developed favorites. I was talking about this with Rob at Taboo, when he talked me into trying a Twist. Fact is, a maduro or cameroon or corojo or whatever is better in some ways and not better or satisfying in others. Same with candela. I've had the AF 858 candela and, while it definitely is on the light/mild side, I enjoyed the sweetness and the grassyness that it delivered. Wouldn't smoke it regularly, but found it very enjoyable for what it was.

I never had a candela. A green cigar seems rather odd...

Re: Who here likes Candela wrappers?
I've always been a fan of the candela wrapper. When I started smoking some 15 years ago, they were much easier to find. Almost everybody still made them. These days, there are few manufacturers, so they are difficult to find. Lately though, I'm finding more shops starting to carry a limited number, usually the 858.
When it comes to candela, I prefer the smaller ring guages, which is the opposite of what I prefer in cigars with other wrappers. The smaller ring guage brings out more of the flavor from the wrapper. My favorite candela at the moment is Fuente's spanish lonsdale, but the seleccion privada #1 and the 858 are nearly as good. I've had Puros Indios and Iguana in candela. The puros Indios was average at best, and the Iguana, well, I wouldn't give that to my worst enemy. Macanudo has their Jade line and La Gloria Cuabana has a candela, though I've not yet tried them. Hoyo de Monterrey and CAO both make candelas from time to time, but good luck finding those. I've never even seen one, let alone seen them for sale. You may see people trash talking candelas, but pay them no mind. Smoke what you enjoy, no matter what it is. |

Re: Who here likes Candela wrappers?
I had a Camacho Candela a few months ago and I didn't really like it. I thought it was good for about the first inch, and then it was just bland and unapealing.

Re: Who here likes Candela wrappers?
I haven't had a candela in years. I used to smoke them about 10 years ago when I first started. I even bought a box of Don Tomas candelas with a 15yo wrapper on the devil's site about two years ago for $16.
I just haven't been able to bring myself to smoke a mild churchill sized smoke. Candelas are already mild, but after 15 years... I think rnpatrick might be on to something with the paper towel tubes! ![]()
