Tatuaje : Are there any that don't smoke like a Pepper Mill?

I've not had good luck with Tats. I want to feel the love, but every one I've smoked is like firing up my pepper grinder.
I literally hate cigars that taste like black pepper.
I love spice, especially if it's real sweet, but I can only take a hint of pepper at best. It's better if it's white pepper, I can take more. But black pepper, gaaack.
I tried a 5 Miami the other day, took two drags and stomped it and cursed it. That should be an indicator.
Are any of the Tats without pepper?

Which tats have you tried?

I love that peppery flavor but I can understand it can be overpowering. I guess the least peppery may be the browns but they have a good bit more body imho.

Aging helps.

Slow puffs help as well.

I smoked a 5 Vegas Miami Churchill with nine months on it this weekend and it was very smooth with just gentle hints of pepper.

I guess I don't really taste pepper but my favorite with a little sweetness is the J21.

I smoked a Tat P series last night, the white label and I thought it had minimal spice.

The white labels are the mildest in my opinon, but I enjoy the red and brown labels as well.

Oh yeah, me too!

I haven't smoked the cabiguan in my humi yet, but I believe (?) it is less spicy.

Scott, I'll trade you for the rest of your tats!

i'd say the J21 is a safe bet. also, its not a tat, but the 601 red tastes a bit more like red peppers to me at first.

And stick with it if you can, the pepper lasts for about the first quarter on all of his sticks (I found) and it turns into a more creamy smoke after that.

TRue DaT

I've also noticed that with a few of Pepins blends, the spicyness really does settle down after the first inch or so. Then they really get good IMO.

Re: Tatuaje : Are there any that don't smoke like a Pepper Mill?

I've had a couple Don Pepin varieties that fit that description (i.e. Black labels); however, I wouldn't characterize most Tats in that way. My favorites include:

J21's
Regios
Cojonu 2003

Hell, there are more than that to add, as I love the brown label Tats. I also like the blue labels as they are a very fine smoke for the money. Also, if you don't mind a little less umph, the Cabaiguan Guapo is a fine smoke without the black pepper taste that you describe. It has an Ecuadorian Sun Grown wrapper which gives it a unique taste among the Don Pepin line. As for the 601's, the blue label maduro is a pretty good smoke that is quite different than any Tat you will come across, obviouslly being that it has a maduro wrapper.

Re: Tatuaje : Are there any that don't smoke like a Pepper Mill?

I am gonna say no, there arent any. I have sampled the lines, and for me, they all are too peppery spicy without any sweetness at all to offset the pepper. I have found other Pepin blends, to be perfectly balanced, DPG Blue, 601 Blue label maduro...etc. I have also tried to love Tats, but at this point have not been able to for the same reasons you stated.

Had the same white label for the first time a couple of days ago. It was the mildest Tat that I've had, smooth and not much pepper or spice. I have found the brown label to be the most black pepper taste of all of 'em, different strokes I guess... ~KD

Have you tried the red labels? I have never found them to be overly spicy and they're even more mellow w/ a little age on them.

Every tat that I've smoked has that pepper which is what attracts me to them. Except the white label which is much much milder give it a shot.
