How long will you hang in there before you chuck a lousy cigar?

I give them a quarter to a third if the draw is at least ok if not then it's outta here. If the draw is ok and it still not at least an alright smoke then it's gone too. There are too many good smokes to suffer through a dog rocket.

My counterpoint would be that while its true that i'll never know how good it is to the nub, I don't need long to imagine how bad it can be. I can't use value to create an argument to complete something I purchased as a consumable. But thats just me.

If its an off thing (like same ammonia) then I give it an inch or so to taper off. If its a flavor I don't enjoy (heavy wood tastes for example), then a half inch at most. But I also pitch anything with a bad draw or a frayed wrapper. If you own more than 5 cigars you own too many to put up with a bad one IMO.

I will give a cigar about 2" to get going. If it ain't happenin' after that, it ain't gonna happen. I think I need to rest my palate. I have been smoking at least one a day. Have had a few duds, that should have been nice.

I give it until it's about a third of the way in, when the taste starts to change...if it is still horrible or becomes worse...I chuck it.

A) How much I paid for the darn thing (I WILL get my money's worth, dammit!)

B) What else I have with me

C) If I am distracted enough by whatever else I am doing at the time to not care all that much

D) If someone just gave it to me b/c it's their favorite smoke

I don't gauge it by how deep I get into the cigar. I'm more about the time and the taste. The quickest I've dumped one is about 2 minutes. Life is too short!
