What flavors do you like in a cigar?

it's my understanding (from the "idiot's guide to cigars") that the tongue can only distinguish, sweet, salty, sour, and bitter.

The sinuses detect the other flavors.

My favorite flavors are ranked in order:

1. coffee
2. spice
3. chocolate
4. earth
5. caramel
6. vanilla


My least favorite flavors are also ranked in order:

1. grass / grapefruit
2. hot smoke
3. burning paper
4. tar

Maybe those flavors arent in the cigars you are smoking. Try some cigars that have reviews that have say they have a flavor you want and see if you can taste it too.

Anyone that knows me knows that I look for one, solid flavor... CEDAR! I know many cigars have it, but only a select few have juuuuuuuuust the right balance of cedar.














Oh, and "twang," too!

I mainly smoke maduros so my likes list is aimed in that direction:

Coffee
Chocolate, especially if not too sweet
Cinnamon
Anise
Pepper and other sharp spices
Earth
Cedar and other woody flavors

My dislikes are almost any flavor that is out of balance with the other flavors in the cigar and the old standbys like used jock and old sweat socks.

What exactly do you mean when you say you smoke through your sinuses? Do you somehow let the smoke pass up and out your nose without inhaling?
