How well-known/respected is Sosa?

I was reading the Big List of Cigars - Good Newb Starter thread, and I saw Sosa cigars on the list at #38. A year ago, when I readily acknowledged that I knew nothing about cigars, I still knew some brand names, namely Macanudo, Montecristo, La Gloria Cubana, Partagas, and Arturo Fuente.

I had never heard of Sosa cigars until I came across their store in Downtown Disney. I've never seen them in print catalogs from Thompson's, corona, or Cigars International. I did come across them recently on bestcigarprices.com.

How well-known is Sosa within the cigar-smoking community? Are they well respected? Anyone here a fan of Sosa? I have come to enjoy their "Family Selection" cigars. They are really smooth.

My brother in law likes them. I've seen them in the local TinderBox, but that's about the limit to my knowledge of em.

I have enjoyed the 2 natural and 1 maduro Sosas I've had. They are tied in with Fuente I believe.

I don't think they get the respect or attention they deserve. I like 'em. My B&M turned me onto one about a year ago. I don't hear much about them on CS or anywhere else.

Sosa has been around a very long time. Many years ago I had one of their Jeroboam (spelling?) cigars which was a mamouth figurado that came in it's own single wooden box. The cigar is long gone, but I still have the box. Good company, good cigars.

Haven't had any Ashton cigars yet. Seen them in B&M's, but never had one yet. I may have to.

What's a crying shame is that even though one of my local B&M's is a Sosa Family Cigar shop, it's a lot cheaper for me to order boxes online. (If I were of a mind to do such a thing)

I have not advanced to the point of buying boxes yet. At my B&M's, I buy singles. Online, I'm still buying sampler packs.

I have yet to try the Sosa, but I have smoked many Ashtons, and I say do yourself a favor and pick a few up. The Ashton Aged Maduro is one of my favorite Maduros.

They sure as heck are respected amongst the Downtown Disney visitors, and I grab several Sosas when I am there. I enjoy them in the Sosa bar. I have never had a bad Sosa, and I do look forward to having them when they are available.

Sosa Cigars is the only place that I have seen the full selection of the Sosa line. the brand has been around since the early '90s (pre-boom), and in my opinion they have become better over time.

Re: How well-known/respected is Sosa?

They are well constructed and burn perfectly but imho they are overpriced and a bit mild for my tastes. (That is also my view of many Ashtons fwiw.)

I would recommend against buying a box until you have tried two or three of them to see if they fit your taste profile.

Re: How well-known/respected is Sosa?

Several months ago I noticed that a SOSA Wavell scored a 90+ in CA.

I have seen them listed in the Mikes cigars catalog.
