Febreeze for the clothes, carpet, sofa, etc. and orange juice for the breath. They both work wonders.

And after you take care of the cigar nagging, prepare for the next battle...

Be up front about it. Otherwise one day she's gonna find out, and on that day the real $hit will hit the fan. It WILL bite you in the a$$ down the road at some point. Ask anyone who has ever tried it for any length of time. It's better to man up about it now and her be ticked off or whatever for a few days/weeks than for her to find out you've been hiding and sneaking behind her back with it and losing her trust in you for a long time.

Re: In Denial or Incognito?

I have to agree with most of the previous posts, just be up front about it. I was completly up front with my Fiancee when I started to smoke cigars. We had been together for about four years at the time and I said I was interested in trying cigars and she was fine with it. She has been fine with my cigar habbit, although I do get the funny looks every time a new package arrived at the door, but that is to be expected. I hope everything works out for you and you wife lets you enjoy your smokes.

Re: In Denial or Incognito?

Take it or leave it, this is good advise. If you are hiding stuff from someone you care about, it WILL lead to larger problems.

You don't realize it NOW, but just by virtue of hiding something, you're making it "okay" to hide stuff.

If you deeply care about this person (as opposed to just not wanting them to get mad at you, so that you'll keep getting laid) then I would just be as honest as possible about what you're about.

That advise sounds so free-spirited, but i'm a lifelong conservative. I just think it's the ONLY way to be in a relationship with someone you care about.

Everyone makes their share of mistakes, of course, but there is absolutely NO reason to be stealthy about smoking cigars (unless you're 19 and the girl is still immature).

I've always said that the best recourse for cheese doodles is construction paper. The red always seems to work best. Try to talk to your watch or a clock in your domicile about the chances of drawing a straight flush at the World Series of Poker. You'll get through this if you have a Lenny Dykstra rookie card.

Re: In Denial or Incognito?

Sometimes, you'll come across a few people who refuse to understand...or even make any effort to try and understand. My wife happens to be in that category of people. No matter how honest I am, it just doesn't matter. The bottom line has always been NO SMOKING. The occasional cigar is fine, as long as I keep it "occasional." But for the most part, it's NO SMOKING.

I kept on smoking cigarettes, even years after I told my wife I had quit. She's never dealt with cigarette addiction and despite how much I tried to educate her on the subject matter, she just didn't get it. I got sick of arguing, so I decided that I would quit on my terms when I was ready...and I moved at my own pace shrouding it all in secrecy.

One day, she'll eventually accept me for the cigar smoker that I am. And until the day that I finally break her in, she only needs to know that I'm the "occasional" cigar smoker.

Best of luck, Pete. We're wearing the same shoes and walking the same walk. I can relate to you 100%, bro.

Here are the phrases you need to use when your wife protests:

A) I am the king!
B) My word is law!
C) I rule!

Use them separately and at regular intervals during the discussion. Goodness and justice will prevail. Larry.

Added bonus - I have super short hair which doesn't hold much odor. I remember my teenage days of long hair holding the stench of cigarettes for days after I went to rock concerts. That was nasty!

However, today my hand smells like Gurkha.
