Re: How long do you age?

Collections grow and taste changes. Many smokes I bought 3 years ago I won't smoke anymore and have found new favorites. I found for myself that going to herfs is the best way to try smokes you haven't had, the big problem with the Gorillas I herf with is that I keep getting handed 20+ year old smokes.

I don't touch a box for a couple of months after arriving. I store everything at 65% and most delivered smokes are at a much higher RH, it takes time to readjust them.

Re: How long do you age?

I've been accused of being a collector. "Not so" I say, I just buy more than I smoke. Right now I have enough for the next 7-8 years at my present rate of consumption of two or so a week. I have really slowed down purchasing this year though as the humidor is full and my wife won't go for a cooler in our already cramped house.

Re: How long do you age?

Going against the grain, I acutally like my smokes raw, fresh, and flavorful. I see how some harsher smokes can mellow out over long periods of time, but I also see other flavors that I really enjoy becomeing muted. I think a lot of NC's actually don't hold up over long aging periods and can lose the profiles they were originally sorted and bundeld together to produce.

If you are a collector then please disregard the above statement since I know the thrill of the hunt far out ways the actual kill.

With boxes, I usually smoke one the day I get the box, let the box sit for about a month and try another one (or a few), then let it age for 3+ years.

Re: How long do you age?

If its something I got through the mail, I usually let them sit 2-3 weeks, then I smoke them whenever I want to. Some of the cigars out a box may end up getting aged for years, but it's mostly a pure accident because it takes me a long time to smoke the whole box.

Re: How long do you age?

Let them sit 4-6 weeks to acclimate to the 55-60% for Cubans and 65% for non-Cubans that I like; then age as long as I want or can afford to.

I have some boxes of LGC Wavells (NC) and Henry Clay Mirabelles from early decade that have aged nicely and continue to mellow, and both were very inexpensive purchases.

Re: How long do you age?

I stopped at the B&M on my way home from Baltimore yesterday and picked up one each of the following sticks just so I could try some of the sticks that Addiction had up for sale. How long should I rest them before trying them?

Diamond Crown Maximus #2 Churchill
Padron 1964 Imperial Maduro
VSG Sorceror
2005 God of Fire Don Carlos
Camacho 10 Year Anniversary

The guy told me that I had just missed the Opus Xs.

Re: How long do you age?

I've been aging for about 41 years now and I haven't mellowed a bit. I don't know what the problem is. Maybe it's the cello.

Re: How long do you age?

Buy a few boxes of your favorite smokes and hide them in your coolerdor and forget about it. I usually like to smoke one every year to get a flavor profile and change variances.

Some cigars are good fresh and some are great aged. It all depends on your palette.

Few boxes? One every year?
