Will Removing the Cedar Wrap Affect the Flavor?

I have some Double Chateau Fuente Maduros I have had for almost a year. I have found mold under the cedar sleeves on some before. I would like to remove the cedar so I don't have to worry about the mold. So....

If I remove this Cedar Sleeve is it gonna affect the flavor of this stick?

Re: Will Removing the Cedar Wrap Affect the Flavor?

I've removed cedar wraps on all cigars ever since I discovered mold on some A.F. Chat's many years ago. I didn't notice any difference in flavor at the time.

Bottom line: I'd rather give up possible flavor enhancement in order to avoid mold.

I have heard that certain Fuente's with cedar are very succeptable to mold. It is advised to remove them on these cigars, unless you can provide a lower humidity ifr these specific cigars.

You know I just checked these and they didn't have mold. I remember checking them when they were in my desktop humidors and they had mold. Now that they are in my Cabinet Humi they are fine.

I would attribute this to me lowering my RH from 70% in the desktops to 65% in my cabinet.

Any Thoughts?

Agreed. The cedar wrap is really for presentation. It does nothing for the cigar, imo.

If you are worried, take it off and know there won't be a possibility of mold.

Do not put it back on before smoking.

I usually run a low enough humidity that I don't even consider it a worry. I use 65% beads.

What humidification are you using?

From what i have ascertained - the cedar wrap: can affect the flavor if aged long enough (noticeably? maybe/maybe not) - however it may be best to remove it to avoid mold problems.

Oh, I dunno. It adds a certain, ah, enhancement to the flavor of the cigar. Greatly to be preferred over leaving the ribbon on, however.
