madagascar vanilla-esque flavor descriptions...

Thought it would be fun to start a thread to collect stupid descriptions of cigar flavors you've seen elsewhere.

From a certain magazine which I got today:
* Not one, but TWO cigars described as having hints of "pencil lead"
* One with notes of "red peppercorns". Not black. No, tastes nothing like black peppercorns, though there was a different review that mentioned simply peppercorns, and yet another that tasted like black pepper (I guess post-grinding in that case?)...
* At least two reviews noted a "toast" taste, while another cited "bread", and another "wheat".
* "Balsa wood" - not just woody like many others, or "charred wood" like one other.

a few of the more unique tastes i have had the experince of tasting are metal, lawn clippings, shoe polish and rubber.

It's funny, because in a back issue of that certain mag that i have, they mention tasting STARBUCKS coffee. Not just coffee, but starbucks coffee. Now those are some taste buds!

Re: madagascar vanilla-esque flavor descriptions...

How about this?

"The cigar commenced by depositing on the palate a mushy flavor sensation of rubber allied with cinnamon croissants, and then proceeded to subsequently release nuances of tobacco and green tea leaves, bitter melon and blades of grass, mocha, sweet lemon drops, peach pits and sandstone earthiness, autumnal foliage paired with Shitake mushrooms, faint touches of white pepper and salted citrus rind, cedar and fennel seeds."

I wouldn't call this stupid, just adjective-heavy.

You could fill an entire thread with the flavors JazzNut can pick out of a cigar! I do like it when you get nice complex flavors, but rarely nail them down very closely. I may get a taste that reminds me of cinnamon, but I can't tell you what kind of soil it grew in!

Actually, I think white pepper is one flavor that's pretty easy to pick out of certain cigars.

I like cigars that taste like tobacco, but that's just me.

I saw all those descriptions in that certain magazine also.

Damn near need a grocery cart to buy a stogie according to them folks.

Good for a laff anyway.

Me too! White pepper is what I call those first 3 or 4 drags that taste like shiznit. White pepper means my nose is burning. I guess I ought to age my cigars. That might help.

I wonder how he has ended up tasting sandstone to tell whether it is sandstone earthiness or granite earthiness. And I want to know WHICH autumnal foliage?

...peach pits and sandstone earthiness, autumnal foliage from a three year old Beech tree that has grown under the shade of an American Red Oak and has two bluejay nests resting among its branches, paired with Shitake mushrooms ....

I've tasted distinct peanut butter ... not nuts, not peanuts ... PEANUT BUTTER. Smooth. Not chunky. No jelly yet.

...peach pits and sandstone earthiness, autumnal foliage from a three year old Beech tree that has grown under the shade of an American Red Oak and has two bluejay nests resting among its branches, paired with Shitake mushrooms in a melange with Jif creamy peanut butter from a freshly opened jar, a touch of concord grape jelly and the faintest hint of freshly churned unsalted butter from a Jersey cow named Missy milked on a thursday night under a full moon using left hand only .....
