Re: Stogie Rate: database app

I have tried downloading the zip file, unzipping it and running the app on Windows 2000 and on XP Pro. I have yet to reproduce the error and it's frustrating me. I hope one of you can narrow down the problem for me. Perhaps it has to do with permissions(?) When I run the app, a dialog box comes up when opening and asks me to put my user name. I type in Administrator. (I wanted priveledges available so people can tweak the file). But I have never received an error message.

Anybody have any answers?

I am running a fully updated XP Pro system.

Maybe I'll try it on my server.... a whole other OS and see where that goes.

Re: Stogie Rate: database app

Hmmm, I have it running on 4 different OS and it is working without errors.

Win 2000
XP Pro
2003 server
Linux

Did you try to manually register the .dll?

Shouldn't be this hard. I wish I knew what the problem was. Most people run the app without a hitch. But the error you encountered is not the first of it's kind. I can't seem to track down the anomaly. Perhaps Ron is correct is saying that you must manually register the .dll(?) Though, that shouldn't be the case. After all, this is a "runtime" app. Should just boogie.

If you figure this out you da man!

Ron, if you're out there, help us out. I've never done it on a PC, I work on Mac most of the time.

Re: Stogie Rate: database app

Got the same error code when I tried, missing xerces.dll. Double clicked on the named "missing" file and retried the .exe file. A new missing file comes up. Double click on that missing file, etc, and then finally after double clicking on all the missing .dll files double clicking on the .exe file does nothing but show the hourglass icon. Any help?

Re: Stogie Rate: database app

Any chance it could be with how the file is unzipped? Are there any formatting constraints? I'm grasping at straws here. I spent most of the day on the FileMaker Pro support site looking through their knowledge base and discussion forums. No luck, couldn't find anyone else with the same problem. It could be my fault in the creation of the app. Perhaps there are permission parameters that I am embedding that I'm not aware of. Though, I really doubt it. Consternation.

Re: Stogie Rate: database app

Could be possible that the .zip file has gotten corrupt. Take down that file and zip a tested, working file and upload that. The one I DL'ed is working fine on all OS that I use. I have seen this happen.

I dunno??
From looking at this screen shot you haven't extracted the file yet. I didn't realize it either but when I clicked on the extract icon and loaded it on the desktop it worked fine. Before i extracted it I had the same problem you're having.

Re: Stogie Rate: database app version 2

Okay,

I reuploaded the app. This time I used a different FTP program.

If it doesn't work this time, my first advice would be to buy a Mac.

My second bit of advice would be, I don't have any advice.

Re: Stogie Rate: database app

Did you try extracting the files prior to opening, like William suggested?

Re: Stogie Rate: database app

Hmmm.... too funny

I guess I never did see that tip but Smokinmojo sent me a PM asking something about if I got it running and it is then that I thought of extracting it and now it works like a champ. I was always clicking the .exe from the winzip program.

Then I come here to give the good news only to find out I already missed the advice....

OK.... love to talk more but now I need to go play with the app!!!!

Thanks for all the help!!!!!!
