Just wondering though, do you have a data file you can share that has the smokes entered already? If not, maybe all of us that are using it can pool together our entries to create one large DB that can be shared here.

The GUI, graphics, colors.... everything is looking great and this is exactly what we have been hoping for in all the other database software threads but if each person had to put every cigar description they have into it AND inventory them AND rate them.... I would be afraid this would lose a lot of airplay (I have a lot of various smokes!)

Heck Doc... I don't see why you shouldn't make a few dollars from this... if you threw in the bulk data I would pay something for it. I think part of the winning formula would be that newb's can open it up and learn about the various sticks out there.

OR.....

Maybe you should sell this to a vendor (like CI, not JR) with a banner at the top and a "order" link for each stick. They would love it.... something to keep us computer geek cigar smokers having fun AND they would increase sales for sure.... heck.... I would imagine it would only be a hop and skip to use THEIR DB and then you would be able to get the info we want AND THEN it would have the prices too. We would still need to put in our beloved Habanos but that is OK.... and who knows.... with the connections we have around here... we might be able to get a ISOM database to add to the mix too.

Vendor gets to give it away to increase sales, we get to tweak it anyway we want adding info, Doc gets paid for his work, we get to have even more fun with our stogies and computers.... ya'all do use computers right?

Ah heck.... I'm sorry... what am I thinking??? Doc doesn't want money for his art!!

Good ideas. I am more than happy to share what I have in my database. Bad news is, that i have only been cataloging my database since I started my Stogie Fresh website (late October 2005), thus I only have about 30 cigars in the database. However, I do have a few more bands than ratings. And I have photos of cigars too. The problem with prices is that they vary by vendor and by state. Further, the ratings would vary by batch and by age.

Regardless, I would be happy to supply what I have as a baseline and others can add their own ratings and cigars to the database. So, the first thing I will do over the next couple of days, is to make a file available with just the cigar brands, names, types and ratings (you will have to add other data). I will also make a file available with the photos of the bands so you can import them into the picture field for the band, and then will make another file available for the photos of cigars.

After that, you will be on your own. Others will need to contribute to the database by rating the stogies using the same rating scale provided in the app.

We'll see where this goes. Be looking for a post of the new files in the next day or so.

Okay folks, I am ready to unleash a new version of my Stogie Rate database application. Here's what I've been working on...

First, I added one new text field: Vendor. So you can remember who you bought your cigars from and so you can compare the prices at different vendors.

Second, the version I created has about 27 pre-rated stogies in it. The app will not have photos of the bands and cigars, that would've made the file too large. But I am including a separate file that has scans of 47 bands to get you started. I will include another file with photos of cigars (32). You just need to import the appropriate bands and cigar photos into the database. Perhaps we can get some of our Club Stogie apes to start taking photos of bands and cigars to add to the database pool. That way, those who don't have the techno-savvy would have access. If you do want to help, make the band photos at about 200 pixels wide and the cigar photos at no larger than 400 pixels height.

Next, I have created a help file in PDF format. Hopefully, this will answer some of the questions you might have about the database app. You will find the help file here: Stogie Rate Help File

Finally, in order to space out the downloads, I would appreciate it if you would send me an email or a PM to let me know you would like to download the app and supporting files. I will send you the URLs for each of the files. In case you're interested, the files sizes are shown below:
