Padron Family Reserve #44 Maduro

Does anyone know anything about these? I searched online, and there is 1 review here and other than that it seems to be an elusive beast.

Picture from the review can be found here

Apparently there was a Padron event at Holts in Philadelphia last night and Jorge Padron brought these special sticks around.

Well I went to holts today for some Anejo's, Opus, and AVO LE 08's, and because I have become friendly with a good amount of the staff there, they offered me these at a mere $30 a stick. I bought 2.

They told me they would never be a mass produced stick available for regular retail.

Anyone know anything about the blend? how it differs from the regular 1926 line? I want to smoke one now, but they need a couple weeks in the humidor to come down to a RH I prefer.

You may see this on another forum btw, as I want to try and find out as much about them as I can.

Thanks.

Angry Re: Padron Family Reserve #44 Maduro

Well, here I am smoking a padron family reserve, 1964, 45 years stick, while drafting another legal brief. I am only into it by about an inch and a half right now. My thoughts so far is that it burns perfectly, draw is easy with perfect amount of resistance. I read some other puff.com members review of this before lighting her up. Here are my thoughts: this cigar is very easy to smoke, the tastes that I detect are mostly of cedar, leather and nuts. Am sure others have heard that all before in re to many other cigars.

The difference to me tho is the depth of those tastes. they last well after taking a puff and letting the smoke wonder over your taste buds and out your mouth. The smoke in my mouth is so creamy and chewy, more so than other cigars you hear this about (no harshness at all). I also love the shape. It is box-pressed. some people may call this a lonsdale, but fwiw it is rectangular and I love that. makes quite the impression.

It has been burning perfectly. have not had to touch it up once. I have to say tho it is one dimensional in its taste so far. In other words it does not keep you guessing in re to just what tastes you are detecting. I am now about 1/2 down. I think I now detect tastes of mocha. No pepper or spiciness tho. My cigar ash is about 2 inches plus long and hard to believe but has not fallen off yet as I place her back in my ashtry.

What I really like about it is that there is no rush to take next hit of this stick, unlike an opus x that seems need to be hitted every minute or less. This is simply one agreeable cigar with deep lasting tastes but with the lack of diversity/complexity of an opus x.

Am now one half way through and will update this as needed in a further post, as cigar smoothly winds it's way down to the finish. For now, my conclusion tho is that this a great cigar with deep tastes that lacks complexity. Great for smoking with friends, still very creamy with all the same tastes that I desribed above, but it gets boring after a while.

What can I say, others may disagree with me, but I do not think it is worth spending so much more for this cigar (I think it set me back about 25 bucks). If you could buy this for maybe $15 a stick (unlikely tho), then I say it's worth it, but I personally expect more complexity in a cigar that I just spent 25 bucks on. I am thinking you can get same tastes from a rocky patel decade or rocky patel edge for less money but without the depth.

One last thougt, by now I am about an inch and a half from the ribbon (my long ash finally fell off) and I am still just tasting notes of leather, nuts and oakiness. for such an expensive cigar I would have expected more. Still much better than most cigars in the $10-15 range.

thanks for reading this.

Here I am replying to my own comment on this cigar. I am now about one inch from the ribbon an I know detect specific tastes of peanuts (as opposed to the usual general tastes of nuts in general) but still no harshness
