I speak of DC's

Theres a reason I get a DC when shipping something. Its proof that I shipped it. If for whatever reason I am questioned as to whether I shipped it or not on the day I claimed to, I have proof I did. Its to protect me & my word more than anything else, which is why I get it.

There's an old tale of something that happened on another popular cigar board that involved a strictly cuban cigar pass. This sleazeball claimed he shipped that package but it was never recieved (the person it was to be shipped to had a very long & good reputation on that board & still does to my knowledge). When wingnut supposedly shipped it, he never got any proof as to whether he actually did or not. He claimed it must be lost and its not his fault because he swears he shipped it.
The icing on the cake was when he showed up to a herf one day weeks after this incident and in his traveldor was not his usual AVO's, Fuentes, and other NC's, but rather it was filled with Esplendidos, Bolivar Beli's, RyJ Chuchill Tubos, etc.
He was 3" shy of getting his arse whooped by 17 others that were there. Instead, he was just given a verbal beating. Needless to say, after that he and the 83 Havanas from the pass were never seen again.

Obviously with the stupid being replaced with "god like wisdom one".

Add a bit from my perspective....

Transactions here are primarily based upon trust.
Trust is created by our rules and community standards.
DC's are a form of communication and setting a standard of care as much as anything.
The post office is remarkably reliable.
Certain bad folks use "lore" about the PO to defraud.
DC's prove shipment and delivery which is consummation of transactions.

Absent DC's....

I shipped it .. the post office must have lost it.
I never got it... the post office must have lost it.

And an open door for "bad people" to defraud here would be created. And more realisiticly, without them, uncertainty and loss if trust might be created through timing and other issues.

My view is that DC's provide a cost effective means of providing a "standard of care" which is easily accessible to all and by their use very few transactions go awry due to "lost in the mail" issues. I have personally shipped approximately 1000 packages here to other members. To my knowledge, every singe one has gotten to the intended recipient.

What DC's are not ... are real time tracking as compared to some of the private services... yet. The upgrade to the USPS system to include this has been delayed several times.

That's the only reason I post them. Just to let the gorilla know that it's on the way.

About the only time I check a DC for a package sent to me is if it's late.

And, as has been said many times, they are free with Click and Ship. For me, it's "DC#s...... Why not?
