Dry cigar but humi is up to par.....

Picked a Torano Exodus 1959 out of my humi last night and, as always, gave it a little squeeze and heard a little crackling.....uh oh. Proceeded to clip the cap and...crunch. Peeled about a half inch of wrapper off from where I clipped and "tried" to smoke it. Stopped after about an inch. Proceeded to pull out a 5 Vegas Gold, which was fine....smoked it down to the nub. I don't understand, my humidor is a consistent 70% RH (and I've done the salt test multiple times). It's in my basement and the temp is always around 65 degrees. Maybe it was shipped dry??? I know there's a long standing debate on leaving the celo on or off. I leave mine on, but don't think that's the problem.

Any ideas? I'm nervous about the rest of my stash.

How long had this particular cigar been resting in your humi?

Was the stick located far away from your humidification device?....do you rotate your stock frequently?

I do rotate them, but they're in a small 50-count humidor. I have Heartfelt beads in the middle of the humi.

if it was only in there for a month then I don't think that insufficient rotating could be the problem.

Do you have more of the same cigar that are like that? Maybe they were dry when you got them. Ive gotten some that were dry after sitting in my cooler for awhile, but would have more than one of the same kind be like that.

My guess : The stick was very dry when you got it and never got a chance to get back to proper humidification.

Rotation, is over rated, more of a problem with stuff near the humdidfier being over wet than too dry.

Try some beads, it will make the regulation of the humidor much easier.

Re: Dry cigar but humi is up to par.....

A year or so ago, I pulled out a Mayorga Hi Octane robusto and cut it and it crumpled in my hand. Kind of reminded me of termite infested wood. This cigar was stored at 65%/68 degrees just like all of my cigars and the other 4 or 5 boxes of Hi Octanes I'd smoked.

Sometimes, life is just a mystery.

I use Heartfelt beads. I'm hoping it was just a "bad apple".
