Project of the Day : Desktop Oak Humidor

***This Humi will be added to the "Support the Troops" raffle as soon as I can add it.
If you want a shot, just follow the link in my sig. Thanks!!!

This is a little project that started out by me seeing a nice piece of oak in a pile at Lowes. It had a nice deep grain and some tiger striping that said "Let's go make something out of me."
So I dragged the board home and started butchering it.
I made enough panels to do two boxes, I just finished this one.
The second box won't be a humi, and it probably won't have handles. It's going to serve as my lighter/cutter/junk box.

Here's what's going on with the box:
It's stained with red mahogany stain. Lightly.
It's got about 12 coats of poly on it.
Inside is a vented shelved compartment section that holds a total of about 5 ounces of HCM beads in two layers for positive air circulation.
It'll hold anywhere from 15 to 25 smokes.
There's a Hygroset II calibratible hygrometer thermometer velcroed to the lid.
The lid and bottom of the box are lined with green ruddy duck fabric (I love that stuff, it's the same fabric they use for Carharrt work clothes).
All the side panels are rabetted, this thing will survive a hurricane.
The lid is not only wood fitted, I created a silicone seal by applying five or six layers of silicone to the mating surfaces. There should be an absolute zero air exchange with the outside world.
I still have to dust the silicone to take the "sticky" out of it, and the box is done.

Lots of pics, I'll start with a front shot and dump more pics in as I have time.

These are the new Taboo Special Forces Original Lancero and Taboo Twist Petite Corona.
They're delicious. They even look more delicious sitting in that box.
