Interview: Eric McAnallen; Black Patch Cigars

Many of you may not have heard of Black Patch Cigars. I hadn't until just a few months ago. But Eric McAnallen is growing some Connecticut Broadleaf in Kentucky and is also experimenting with some other varietals in Kentucky as well.

He makes a couple of long-filler cigars using Dominican and Kentucky-grown tobaccos. And, he is the only company that I know of that has a cigar with a Kentucky-grown wrapper: the Black Patch Reserve.

I haven't smoked enough of the cigars yet to build a firm opinion, but I have found them to be interesting and flavorful smokes.

I did an interview with Eric recently and I found it to be absolutely facinating. One of the most interesting interviews that I've ever done. Check it out when you have time.

Enjoy!

Doc

Thanks for the great article! They have a nice website. I wish there was a way to purchase a sampler or singles to give their cigars a try!

These are nice cigars. Living in Lexington, Ky., they were introduced to a few B/M's in town a few years ago. They are a nice smoke with a nice Kentucky touch to them. They are in my rotation. Thanks for the interview Doc, and the support for a local cigar man.

The Reserve blend cigars that are now shipping, were manufactured in August of 2007. Still using the 2003 crop.

Dr. Stogie Fresh, You need a whole forum (at least a sticky) dedicated to your posts here. Always a wealth of quality information. Knowledgable and entertaining. Thanks for the interview.
