Question Attention all Europeans !!! a few questions

First of all, I do apologise for discriminating my non-European friends here, but my interests lie completely in the European cigar markets on this matter.

As i have to travel a wee bit around Europe due to my work, i am always scouting for smokes and good places to enjoy them in peace. Please notice, that i am NOT asking for places of purchase or discussing prices. My point is just to do a little research on the quality cigars market situation across Europe. So, Moderators, if you see something that conflicts with the rules, feel free to remove this thread. I have done my best not to break any boundaries...

So, my fellow Europeans, I would appreciate it, if you could answer these few questions below. I hope this will benefit someone else too...

1. In which country do you live in?

2. In you country, What is the current situation concerning the anti-smoking act around Europe?

3. What is the tax levels for tobacco / cigars?

4. Are there any additional duties included in importing cigars from outside the EU or abroad?

5. If you can, mention a few good lounges or restaurants that are "cigar friendly"

6. Do you have a wide range of Habanos available in your country?

7. And what about the non-Cuban cigars? How easily available are they?

8. On a general level, if you do some browsing and comparisons over the net on the price levels in different European countries, how would you describe the prices in your country? a) lower than average b) average c) higher than average d) outrageous

Thank you for your time and effort... Please PM or e-mail me if you have any questions

cheers,

Mikko

Re: Attention all Europeans !!! a few questions

1. In which country do you live in? Sweden

2. In you country, What is the current situation concerning the anti-smoking act around Europe? No smoking at a public place anywhere unless there is a 'smoking room', but still the smoking room cannot be larger than 25% of the establishment and they cannot serve drinks or food in the smoking room.

3. What is the tax levels for tobacco / cigars? I'm not sure about the exact number, except to say it is as high or higher than anywhere else in europe.

4. Are there any additional duties included in importing cigars from outside the EU or abroad? Yes, 50% import tax calculated from the retail value of the cigars.

5. If you can, mention a few good lounges or restaurants that are "cigar friendly" There are a few different ones in Stockholm, and a LCDH in Göteborg, but I could not name them offhand. Sorry.

6. Do you have a wide range of Habanos available in your country? Habanos are avalible at the LCDH in Göteborg and at a few B&M's in stockholm, but the prices are almost prohibitively high.

7. And what about the non-Cuban cigars? How easily available are they? Very hard to find in country unless you are looking for the biggest brands (Fuente and Ashton). Boutique brands like DPG or Graycliff are almost impossible to find.

8. On a general level, if you do some browsing and comparisons over the net on the price levels in different European countries, how would you describe the prices in your country? a) lower than average b) average c) higher than average d) outrageous Outrageous.

Hope this helps! Where are the rest of my EUBOTL's at?

One added note - I am writing this from the Riga, Latvia airport, about to fly out after a week here for seminary class, and the prices here are pretty standard on Habanos and they have a great LCDH right in the center of Old Town. Definitely worth checking out if you are ever out this way.

-Mark
