This time will be a bit different: I will be accompanied by my 80yo mother, my 14yo daughter and her 14yo cousin. I am not expecting to spend much time in the coffee shops this time around, but there's a ton of other things to do in the city: the Van Gogh museum, the museum of Modern Art, the Ann Frank house, a boat trip on the canals, hiring bikes and riding around, etc.

I told my daughter to use google to search for things she might like do while we were there. I warned her that the city is well known for legal marijuana and prostitution. "Wahoo!" she cried. I think she was joking...
if you need a break and want to meet up for a smoke, let me know. There are several good B&M's in the city centre, my fav B&M/Liquorstore is McCarthy's on the Zeedijk, but Andringa on De Munt, Hartman on Leidsestraat and Beethovenstraat are good, and there is Hajenius, a beautiful shop but crap staff.

I believe you will find the very same situation in the California pot pharmacy's for similiar reason. One is arguably "medicine", while the other is just an intoxicant.

What we need to do, is to come up with a valid medical reason to smoke tabacco. Then, just like guide dogs, we could bring our stinky-ass cigars where ever we pleased...

Or a "Million Cigar March" on Washington. Hell that sounds like fun even if it doesn't accomplish anything.

Thanks for the insight. I figured it was a political thing... I just wanted to point out the apparent double standard.

Perhaps the lawmakers had enjoyed a morning hit or two before passing the ban......

Thanks for the invitation. I don't think I'm going to have the opportunity for any "adult time" and if I did, to be honest, I'd probably prefer to hit one of the coffee shops.

The trip to A'dam was actually my mother's idea. If I had my druthers, I would prefer to visit Leiden, which has all the charm of A'dam and fewer tourists and junkies cluttering up the place.
