My Dad's Birthday

Last night was my Dad's 69th Birthday, and his wife turned him loose to me for a night out. Now my Dad works 60 hours a week still, and doesn't stay out late, but we had a great dinner and a few drinks, and then I brought him over to the Dark Side. He has smoked the occasional cigar, mostly playing poker with the boys, but nothing too special.

I brought out a nice Partagas 898 from '98, and said he was in for a treat. He wasn't so sure he could handle it, but I told him it was a pretty smooth cigar. Well, he nubbed it...and loved it. Said it was the greatest Birthday he ever had (maybe it was the vodka). I just sat back with a Graycliff Expresso and enjoyed watching him enjoy the Cuban.

Just thought I'd share mt Dad's first Cuban experience with y'all.

Re: My Dad's Birthday

Sounds like you both had a splendid experience! Such a shame he is still working that much...it is folks like us who should treat folks like your father to great smokes, just as you did!

I'm sure you are already aware of this...but cherish each and every moment you have like this with your father! I never had a father growing up (still don't) and I would kill for an experience like that! Anywho, I am glad you had a great time. What kind of food did you eat btw?

That's awesome Tom! Father and son sharing a cigar together is a memory you will always cherish. Really glad you had that time with your dad.

Great story! I'll have to do that to my dad for his 50th in about 9 years... by then, I'll be old enough to drink!

Re: My Dad's Birthday

Totally cool Tom... I am very happy for you, that is a memory to hang onto for ever. Pretty hard to get those perfect moments in life with the "old man" but you pulled it off nicely. My Dad and I smoked a couple of ISOM's together (Boli PC's) when my grand daughter/his great grand daughter was born. His smoking cigars ages ago (but not any longer) was probably instrumental in me taking them up... it was pretty cool when he mentioned that it was the best cigar he ever had and saved the butt.

Of course I am very honored that I am in possession of one of those 98's... after this story I'll probably never smoke it... it just became even more of value.

Great thread... always nice to hear a positive Father & Son story.

Is he in the same line of work?
