I still don't see how this is a "Padilla problem." Should we only be concerned about beetles and other bugs with Padilla sticks?

You're right. It's not like Padilla cigars are rolled in horrible conditions with all sorts of crap floating around and all other cigar makers have "clean rooms" where they assemble cigars. I imagine we'd all be a little put-off if we knew about all the stuff we've smoked in our cigars through the years.

If you're squeamish about a little silk in your cigar, don't do any research into FDA "allowances" for foreign "material" in our food supply. Do you know anyone who works in a restaraunt? Best not to ask about what goes on behind the swinging doors. Do you ever eat at buffets? I quit years ago after seeing a guy in line in front of me that I'd seen minutes earlier coming out of a "sit down" stall and who then walked out of the bathroom without washing his hands. Or worse, a behind the counter worker who does the same thing. I will no longer eat KFC in Sheridan, WY.

Oh, and I really like Obsidian's. (But, I'll probably have to check the end of each one, now, before lighting)

Aw GEEZ, now I'm puking all over again. Makes me think Howard Hughes wasn't so crazy after all.

Yeah I don't know whats going on lately either - but I just picked up a couple of 10 packs of Padilla Habanos (a victim of the recent JoeCigar deal). Once I get my cigars, I always remove the cello and inspect them before placing in the humi. Several of these had tons of fine tobacco dust POUR out of them and I immediately put them all in the freezer. Just a heads-up...

Otherwise, I've been completely happy with all Padilla/Pepin stuff. If things are truly in tumult, I hope this stuff works itself out for Padilla.

Re: Spidy Sense was tingling...

Sorry, didn't mean to "throw Padilla under the bus".

But for me, this combined with the brown lip incident just turned me off this particular stick. I liked the two that didn't stain my lips and I think I have one left. I may even smoke it. I just choose to find something else next time and it is my prerogative.

FWIW, I have a bundle of Padilla Hybrids that I'm smoking...

Yeah, didn't ye all know that they throw in a bloody great gift in the purchase of a new Volkswagen Beetle? A WHOOOOOLE box of Beetle Series V. Just a token of appreciation from our good ol' mates down at VW.

At first I wish that I hadn't opened this thread, but there's some good information in here - in a way we can all benefit from this "nightmare".

Re: Spidy Sense was tingling...

I heard that Drew Estates was considering purchasing the remainder of the inventory to infuse with kryptonite and call it "Superhero". However the guy who writes the CI catalog descriptions said he "found a whole bunch of these way in the back that he is blowing out with crazy prices! So low he is losing money!" The good news is he gave "these gems a 93 rating". If only these were "slow aged"............................................. ....
